His contract has expired so we don't have to fire him, just not resign him.I wont rest easy until they make it official, after he hears about the JAX job the Falcons will either announce that they wont renew his contract and let him pursue other options or they will keep him on. |

RE: Mularkey is getting called out now
I really was under a strong impression that Mike Smith was basically running the offense out from under Mularky. I guess all the comments since Sunday from players and everyone have somewhat proved me wrong. It just doesn't seem like the same Mike Mularky that we would get flashes of when he was in Chicago. Weird. He's got two absolute studs at wide receiver (White and Jones [regardless of Whites drops this year]) and he still can't get the ball down the field and capatalize in crucial situations. With JPP and Ross on the bench there after that one play, I really thought that we would have started talking shots in the passing game, but we never did.
With that said, I still think that the whole "Lets go for it on 4th down in field goal range!" thing needs to be addressed. That is CLEARLY Mike Smiths decision. And a bad one at that, every time too! Going for it on 4th and short hadn't really worked for us all season, what made Smith believe that it was going to work for us against one of the best defensive lines (When healthy) in the league? We should have been taking points in those situations.

RE: Mularkey is getting called out now
I don't know how many times I've said this, but if you can't get a yard, you don't deserve to win.
It's as simple as that. MM will not be back because all year he hasn't been able to get a yard.

You gotta remember, those 4th down plays are usually designed by the OC. And I can't imagine Smith didn't ask on the comm what everyone thinks and I'll bet Mularkey agreed we should go for it. His plays, his ego is the benefactor if we succeed. HOWEVER, I've never seen a worse play designed than the 2nd 4th and inches try. No RBs, 5 receiver set, and MATTY UNDER CENTER!?! Hello, could you fucking telegraph a QB sneak ANY MORE THAN THAT!?! MM deserves to be fired simply for the fact he came up with the worst ever play design in history. It's the playoffs. Win or go home. I have ZERO problem with us going for it on 4th down both times. But the play choices were HORRIBLE!!! And I gotta put that on MM. |

Yep, as soon as they started with the first shift, "Oh No" involuntarily emerged from my mouth, part disbelief part disgust because I knew what was coming. It was like knowing you are going to die but are given a few seconds to contemplate it first. I kept praying they were only going to try and draw them offsides but then the executioner snapped the ball and our fate was sealed. |

RE: Mularkey is getting called out now
OK, so we determined in November that, on 4th and inches, running Turner up the middle is absolutely the wrong call. Now, in January, we learn that the QB sneak everyone was calling for in November is actually the wrong call in that situation.
So, what is the right call on 4th and inches? Just so we can let our new OC know. |
