Mike Nolan and the D Did Their Job
I know we were frustrated at Graham killing us on Sunday but the deeper I look into the game the more I like what the defense did in the 2nd half. It also shows that Nolan and company made the necessary adjustments at halftime and gave the offense what it needed to get back into the game.
We gave up 21 points in the first half. 10 points in the 2nd half. We gave up 149 yards passing to Brees with 2 TD's in the first half. 149 yards passing and 1 TD in the 2nd half. We gave up 116 yards rushing in the first half and 1 TD. 33 yards in the 2nd half and 0 TD's. We held the Saints offense to 3 points over the last 25 minutes of the game. THESE ARE GOOD THINGS!

Mike Nolan and the D Did Their Job
Yep, was thinking the same thing. In fact flipping it around in years past, especially before Blank, the way the saints won the game is how we would win against top teams. We would get a lead they would storm back and almost pull it out.
In other words, as much as I hate the loss, this is how the top teams lose. I have a feeling that Arizona is in for an old fashioned ass kicking. I remember thinking going into the 4th quarter that we would have our shot. I will continue to give thanks to our coordinators. With Mularkey or Pornstache we would not even have had that chance. |

RE: Mike Nolan and the D Did Their Job
Great post! I thought the defense did do a great job in that second half. It was however a team loss. I feel like it should give both the offense & defense a lot to improve on this week. For our and their sakes, I hope they start to put everything together for the playoffs.

RE: Mike Nolan and the D Did Their Job
Mike Nolan has proven this year, as with the examples in the OP's post, that we can make halftime defensive adjustments. The problem is that our D does a lot of bending and near-breaking (especially in the first half) until our D gets it going.
Once we get some better players and guys start becoming even more comfortable in the scheme, I expect our D to take off. I still didn't like Graham running free pretty much all game seemingly devoid of double coverage. But then again, Moore picked a bad time to have perhaps his worst game of the season. |

RE: Mike Nolan and the D Did Their Job
Yeah. The defense played much better in the 2nd half and gave our offense a chance. Offense just couldn't work their magic this time. It happens. Not every time will Ryan be able to work is magic.

RE: Mike Nolan and the D Did Their Job
It's amazing that I was actually "shocked" Ryan didn't pull his regular magic (at least, not all the way, though others were to blame), and says a lot about how far we've come and how elite he is.
Be honest, each of you (and Aint fans) expected Ryan to score when we got the ball. He really has proven himself to be someone to count on. Formerly SBC Falcon

I agree. But it's just more proof of how special Ryan really is because of how often he does win these type of games. ![]()

RE: Mike Nolan and the D Did Their Job
Yeah...I think the defense did about as well as you could expect at New Orleans with the Saints somewhat on their game. The Falcons just made a few small but crucial mistakes on offense that were the difference.

RE: Mike Nolan and the D Did Their Job
I think this goes on both sides. It was a tale of two halfs really. Offense showed up first half and defense second half with the defense having a few positive plays in the first half and theboffense only a few in the 2nd half.
This was a total team loss. I can point to many things that would have turned this game around on both sides of the ball. I am actually satisfied with the loss. We obviously still have a problem with short yardage which is a concern, but the refs didn't lose it for us. They tried to screw us over on the HD play but we overcame it with a TD. |

I agree there is plenty of blame to go around for this loss. If the players listen to the coaches and learn from this lost this could end up being a great loss. I agree with the line of thinking that that maybe the team had gotten a little bit accustom to Ryan and the offense pulling a miracle win out of the fire that they hadn't fully accepted the fact that they weren't playing well. ![]()
