RE: McClure on running game - "More to it than five guys up front"
I'm pretty sure McClure is taking a shot at Turner here. There's a slight chance he is including the play calls on short yardage too, but he's clearly not talking about their blocking scheme as being a problem. And I really don't think he'd insinuate that Mike Smith or Keotter were part of the issue because that would be foolish.

I really think this was a shot at just Turner. Either way it's at least partly about Turner for sure and that's very telling IMO. He knows what we, the fans, are seeing and coming to realize about Turner.

RE: McClure on running game - "More to it than five guys up front"
There's something else that came to my mind that I need to take a closer look at. And that is looking to see how big of a hole is created by the OL when there is a running play called. Turner has slowed down and does not hit the hole hard at all. My thinking is that there are holes opened, but Turner is just too slow to get there before it closes up again. And once it does close, he can't do much because he lacks lateral agility and sideline to sideline speed.

It doesn't help that he lines up about as far back as a punter.

RE: McClure on running game - "More to it than five guys up front"
This kind of relates to the thread but a smart poster by the name of atl falcon 89 proposed a solid idea when we're in the redzone:

Quote:I'd like to see them go no huddle for the first play in the redzone like Peyton Manning does to keep the defense from subbing in their goal-line packages.

RE: McClure on running game - "More to it than five guys up front"
McClure is our worst run blocking offensive lineman (now that Reynolds isn't starting anymore) and he constantly gets blown up at the point of attack and yet has the balls to call out Turner. The last thing this team needs is this shit. McClure should know better. He's been in the NFL since 1999 and seen the good and the bad and should know this is not a good thing to say publicly.

I think McClure's job might just be on the line this week. I would not be surprised in the least if Hawley goes in for goal line situations.

RE: McClure on running game - "More to it than five guys up front"
McClure is talking about Turner but if you look at the replay on that goal line carry he lost a yard our entire Oline got bulldozed backwards. I blame Turner for the fact he hasn't been the same guy he was for at least three years now but McClure also has to take criticism for our Oline play. He in particular has always been a weakness in the running game.

If I were Turner, I would get a little liquid courage in me and drive over to McClure's house for a talk.

Oh . . . wait . . .

RE: McClure on running game - "More to it than five guys up front"
I wonder how much of the was truth and what was fabrication. Is there a recording of him saying so. As DeCoud also was quoted as saying something in characteristic. Our players aren't under the breath mumblers out the side of the face shot takers. They have been through far worse than a loss by 4 in which they played very well. And there was no reports of questionable statements being raised. This isn't the locker room that we know. So either there is a problem in there growing to big for the players to maintain their in house only discipline. Or, it's just another angle for writers to start pushing as reasons for why our franchise should be a joke. I don't know of a another team who is desired to fail as much as Atlanta is.
