yeah but he only needs 73 yards, surely he'll get that in a half.

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

It's to bad everyone sans Grimes, Matt, and Julio took yesterday off.

Matt can get the O motivated and is a great passer.

WE have NO ONE who can get the D motivated, we have no one with any natural energy that just rubs off on the team.

OK,let's play the what if game. What if the game was in Atlanta on Monday nite football against the Saints. The falcons have the game wrapped up in a blowout. The Georgia dome is packed and the fans are screaming for Matt Ryan to get 30 more yards to break a long standing record. Do you really think that Smith wouldn't let Ryan go for it? Why wouldn't he? What would be the negative?

His play is very encouraging. He needs to pick up the pace in the red zone if he is going to be mentioned with those top 5 QBs though. Red zone performance is the biggest difference between the Saints and Packers and where the Falcons are at.

Spoon has a ton of energy but it doesnt rub off on the other players.

He's not even the leader of the LB corp.

He's not the leader but to say his energy doesn't rub off is a false assessment which probably comes from the reaction to last nights game.

RE: Matt Ryan... what a stud.
I can't help but think that this game was part of a bigger chess game from the Falcons. I'm sure the coaches wanted to win, you should always want to win. I'm also sure that they are not happy with how they lost. Remember after the first game I said this was a game I was happy to lose because of how we played. This game was the opposite. This is that terrible game that makes you angry.

But going in to one thing that I noticed. We let Vilma into the no huddle. Matt all season has done a good job keeping the D guessing. Vilma sticks his beak in on every audible listens calls something back and we still match the play. Now we still moved the ball around on them but we need to make those yards count with TDs.

personally I think there is more to that than meets the eye, a cerebral quarterback doesn't just offer their greatest strength up on a plate to be countered. All season we have ran ball control in our no huddle we still run the clock down out of it. I would not be surprised if in the playoffs we run the no huddle almost exclusively, and secondly that we run it with a different tempo, last night was very methodical and it did not cause much confusion. We have seen faster versions of that system and ones where we get the plays off earlier and we look to pressure the opponent.

To the best of my knowledge this is the first time NO have played against our expanded no huddle package. I will not be surprised if them or anyone else we play against doesn't see a 2 check audible system from us, following this performance.

Go to the line, qb audible, defense audibles to match. Route audibles or full play audibles to counter and snap. If you go back and watch the Peyton Manning offense, you will see a similar system used, at times we have already seen that here in Atlanta I would think to combat what Vilma did we will see it again, it's either that or a wider hand signal package which whilst would be more effective may be riskier if those aren't already installed in the offense.

All this being said as Matt's completions and stat line showed. The weakness was in breaking the plain. Our red zone offense has at times this season been very very good and others pure crap. I liked how we tested throwing it up to Julio more in the redzone kid will bring those in on the line soon. He needs to use his body a little better on those perimeter type plays and he will have it. There is evidence of his posting ability in college on tape, but it often was more in the end zone than on its edge where defenders can try to edge him out.

I am still optimistic of our team getting work done in the playoffs this year. We are better in so many phases, we get it to click on the right day and forget the records the Mvps the season wins. We can send any team in the NFL home. Next season, I want to see 2010 efficiency and clinical play with 2011s more dynamic play from our offense, defensively I want our team to be blood thirsty hounds I'm sorry but if that Houston D could get the make over like that from a new DC, then do can fucking we. But for now it starts with what we have, and it had to start now. We have built a competitive NFL offense it's gelling it's younger in key parts but the talent will only get better. Defensively despite using the draft picks we are still lacking, now if you have read War room yet you will know the extent to which Atlanta has gone to select players for our defense that we want to build, however either the skills are not translating to the NFL, or the staff in charge of the D unit are mismatched, now before you cull the players you will cull the DC so at some point if this shit continues. We will have a new DC before we see out young D get overhauled.
