Amazingly, there are teams where their WR's suck. Our WR's don't suck, they were just off.

I agree with Smith, but Matt has to start closing the deal more frequently in the red zone against the big boys.
And i think he will. |

RE: Matt Ryan is becoming an ‘elite’ QB, Smith says
I think the idea of elite can be subjective...my elite claas consists of Rodgers, Brees, P. Manning, Brady.
I think the next class is Rivers, Big Ben, E. Manning, Romo, and Vick. The latter class is the class he needs to be in next and I think once this season is over we can put him in that class. Prior to this season I wouldn't have thought he was in that class. Big Ben is so hard to judge and put him in a class but ultimately I dont think he does the same thing Rodgers does with GB, Brees does with NO, P. Manning does with Indy, or Brady does with NE and I think they can do his job and better with Pitt |

RE: Matt Ryan is becoming an ‘elite’ QB, Smith says
Sorry Bound, i do disagree with you. Ryan in my estimations ranks over Vick and over Romo.
Look at those 2 players in depth, and then compare them to Matt he is already past them as a quarterback, not just in the same group but his ability as a player is already ahead of them. His Career stats might not have passed them, but he will do in due course. And his abilities far surpass, Vick and Romo. That's not to say neither are good QBs but at this point I genuinely can't see what about either QB can you say makes them better or more desirable a qB than Ryan. I do agree that that 2nd group is where he is now, but I believe he is in that pack rather than chasing it. And as for that top tier, I agree he is not there yet, but Ryan I believe has all the ability, within himself to be that quarterback, but at his current age he has not quite developed to be the type of QB who can make any other player on his team great. Guys like that don't get to that ability until they get older and are real veterans of the league and their system. |

Sometimes we see our receivers able to get good position or we see Matt comfortable enough with drilling in a pass. I think it is a team effort in the redzone though, you can't expect receivers to make the play if the qb doesn't throw them the ball or have the confidence to try. In the same stroke though if I put a ball in your hands or give it up to you for you to contest then you got to bring it on home. Finally coaches have to come up with the plays that make all that work as easy as possible for the team to execute. It's hard to get a man open in the end zone, I notice that we do seem to do that quite well. But consistency seems more based on getting your guys body position and then let them make the play to finish. One thing I will say is all our receivers out a threat in the end zone. Julio - it hasn't got there yet, but his speed and strength and jump ability will make him the birds biggest red zone threat sooner than later. He knows he needs to play that sideline better, he has proven it in college I've seen some of those sideline snags he made, and we have seen some in the NFL. Teams know they have to play him tight and I think he will adjust to that aggressive play over the off season. Especially as his timing with Matt improves and he gets the feel for when that ball will be in the air as well as where. Matt knowing when and where to place that ball to meet Julio at a high point jump ball. Currently those balls are coming in low and behind him, they need to be up and in a way ahead of him so he can get up on them like one would an Alley-oop. Roddy- The guy fights for body position, can make great sideline catches. He is also good at finding space and there are plays there that get his number open. This is what you expect from a guy like Roddy who is a complete receiver across the entire field. Tony- even after 15 years. Our guy T can get the body position be it up high or down low. He finds space or uses his big body to secure getting to the ball. Harry- he doesn't get much credit or much opportunity, but Douglas is a small receiver who can get lost and free. He isn't a jump ball threat but his speed and good play calling can get him open. I have seen plays where he gets to a corner and Matt places the ball low and Harry leans low drags his toes and brings it in. Attacking linebackers with Harry is a good match up. He has proven he can take hits again but also look at how he handled Henderson, just because he is small in stature doesn't make him weak. He is tough enough. We need to spread teams out in the red zone but keep a back in there, however that back is only a threat if the line can run on opposition with just 5. |

I don't know about elite but he's come a long way since the Detroit game. Top tier? For sure
