RE: Matt Ryan discuss arm strength with Dan Patrick
Great post Radical! The science of physics and trajectories is absolute and is not subject to agendas so there will always be the "noodle arm crowd". However if pressed they really have no evidence.
I love the Falcons and to hell with anyone who doesn't! |

You have to rely on anticipation to know that the WR is going to be in the right spot when the ball comes back down, and you have to hit him in stride while doing so. This leaves less room for error on both the WR and the QB. If the QB doesn't anticipate correctly, you end up with a pass that is easily caught by a defender or it sails by the WR. If the WR slips, doesn't get of the jam, or gets lost trying to look up to find the ball(try this sometime, it's not easy), you also end up with an incomplete or intercepted pass. This is the primary reason you need to be able to throw low trajectory as well as loft passes deep. The biggest issue with the high loft is how early you have to release it. Thus, your WR may get bumped and completely throw off timing. Also (and this has happened often) your WR may BLOW BY the defense, but you've already thrown it. So, the QB tried to make a picture perfect pass, when in fact an underthrown ball would have been fine and much lower likelihood of incomplete...but it was already out of the QBs hand. If you master the low trajectory pass as well, you can see if your WR is open by 3 yards and make sure you don't overthrow those. I'm not a fan of timing passes on deep routes...I much prefer the lower trajectory for the above reasons...you know where the D is and where your receiver is. It's not like an out pattern where timing is critical. Arm strength is one of those things. It's always better to have more, but Ryan has plenty enough to be an all around passer (including deep throws.) |

What a surprise it turned out to be 11 pages of Swift tearing Ryan up,posting graphs about throwing arch's and ignoring everything in response to him. So glad he was banned from here, we have enough objective posts without the usual troll brigade. |
