RE: Like last year
There are 15 more games to play, but if we don't shape up quick, fast, and in a hurry, we will dig ourselves an early season deficit that we won't be able to climb out of.
The only good thing about this game is that it is just one of 16 and our D Ends came to play. But if this game doesn't increase the microscope on our coaching while lighting a fire among our players, I don't know what will. Wasn't the Green Bay beatdown and all this talk about "We won't forget" supposed to the battle cry that accomplished that? Ryan, the O Line, offensive playcalling, the secondary, Weems....it all stunk. Why is our offense continuing to look like garbage despite even better talent from last year? Why can't we piece together an O Line that can give Ryan more than 2 seconds to deliver the ball? Why, when given time, does Ryan still prefer to make safe choices and checkdown instead of taking some shots downfield? Why can't Mularkey develop an aggressive offensive playcalling approach with this talent? Why does our secondary (especially Dunta and Decoud, today) continue to get shredded? And wtf happened with pretty much everyone on special teams--especially Weems? It's just Game 1, but Philly comes to town. They better figure some things out quick or things will be even uglier next week. |

RE: Like last year
We couldnt defend Cutler and that crap WR corps. Just wait til Philly comes to town. It's going to be a beat-down of historic proportions.

RE: Like last year
It was a break down of the fundamentals.
1. Penalties 2. Turnovers 3. Tackling Every time we got a drive going it ended because of ridiculous penalties on 3rd down or ended in a turnover. When you do those things you will lose. We didn't do that last year. They had their explosive plays because we missed tackles. Lots of them. Take away these variables and the game is a lot closer. As for the blocking. McClure is our most important lineman, has been for years. He calls the blocks and schemes. Hawley is making his first start, he wasn't ready. It's a learning experience for him same for Reynolds. The old line had 3 years to gel. But if you turn the ball over, whether though 4th down stops or fumbles and ints then you will force them to pass block more than necessary and the Bears drop back into the type of coverage they do so well. Look at the run game. Turner averaged 10 yards a carry. The run blocking was awesome. All the issues can be ironed out through coaching. Mike Smith will circle the wagons. |

RE: Like last year
A lot of their explosive plays were due to free runners in our secondary...receivers who were WIDE open, without anyone even covering them. That's a pretty big deal.
The other major element was our DTs did not collapse the pocket, and their DL destroyed our OL. That will pretty much do it. We can't run the kind of defense we're trying to run until the front 4 can collapse pockets. |
