I think it makes the players nervous and timid. They preach that to the players and that's how they want their players to play. Very disciplined and rigid. Mike Koenan said there is "nervous energy" up there after he signed with the Bucs. Sometimes, you gotta just let the players play. Exactly what I said. From the staff onto the players. "TOUCHDOWN! MY GOD, A TOUCHDOWN! WE THREW IT TO HAYNES! WE JUST STUFFED THEM WITH FIVE SECONDS LEFT! MY GOD ALMIGHTY, DID YOU SEE WHAT HE DID? DAVID GREENE JUST STRAIGHTENED UP AND WE SNUCK THE FULLBACK OVER! … WE JUST STEPPED ON THEIR FACE WITH A HOBNAILED BOOT AND BROKE THEIR NOSE! WE JUST CRUSHED THEIR FACE!" - Larry Munson broadcast UGA vs Tenn, 2001 Rest In Peace, Larry. You will be missed. GO DAWGS! HUNKER DOWN! |

I wonder if there are still any MM apologist out there, fan, player, or fellow coaches?

Roddy all but came out and said they kept trying to run and played conservative because Mularkey didn't think they could pass protect. Maybe Matt has to "overcome coaching" like Vick did, but at the end of the day, when your OC and head coach have a chickenshit gameplan, it's hard for you to go balls out and sling it around like a gangster. That's where Ryan has to say "fuck it". Him running the no huddle and getting success from it should tell him to speak up as a leader and tell the coaches they're wrong. I'd love to see him really get mad, for once. "TOUCHDOWN! MY GOD, A TOUCHDOWN! WE THREW IT TO HAYNES! WE JUST STUFFED THEM WITH FIVE SECONDS LEFT! MY GOD ALMIGHTY, DID YOU SEE WHAT HE DID? Maybe so, but we're talking about a 4th year player playing for the only coaching staff he has known in his professional career. I can see how he'd be hesitant to go against them on a week-to-week basis. I'd bet he says something in the offseason, however. |

I'll blame Ryan for quickly checking down on 3rd and long when he has ample time in the pocket, not for being too light to push a pile that gets stymied at the LOS. Ryan's tentativeness in challenging defenses is something that he alone will have to overcome, even with a new OC. For the record, I believe he will. |

After reading that article I'm convinced there is a disconnect between the players and Mularkey. They don't buy into his scheme anymore and it couldn't have been more obvious out there today.
So we go conservative because we don't think we can pass block them. I'm with Roddy when he said they should at least try. The game plan today was akin to covering your ass in Vaseline because you might go to prison and get ass raped. |

RE: Jason Cole Yahoo! article. Some not so surprising comments from our players.
I was not a fan of drafting Matt Ryan, but truth is truth and its not on Matt Ryan.
Bad coaching decisions, bad playcalls (timing mostly), the magic number is 21 runs by Turner no matter if successful or not, and the defense has no anchor in the middle. *sigh* |

I'm not absolving Matt, but there was nothing there. I wish someone would point out all these missed opportunities. Roddy dropped the ball, fell before the sticks on 3 and 15. We ran the Julio drag route once on 3rd and 20 something and it got like 18 yards. Deep ball, Matt didn't try it, because we didn't make it available. Smitty admitted as much. They didn't trust the pass protection, and they didn't try. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3CXS04cy...re=related |

Gonna get fried for this but for the past few weeks I have felt like Smith has to go. He doesn't even fit the overall personality of the team we have here. |
