I just hope for one thing
After the season is over and it will be rather soon if we have to go back to NO, that TD and whoever else doesn't say hey we did a kickass WR to combat that NO/Packer attack. But what is really needed is a kickass DE to get those QB out of there comfort zone.
The Pack game of last year and the Monday's NO game was not much different. The answer last year and as well for the upcoming year is to get a top tier DE and a new DC. |

RE: I just hope for one thing
I understand what you are saying but that is what Edwards was supposed to be for. Thing is he has shown that explosive dominance, people early in the season commented on his boom off the line being faster than Abe, but I'll be honest, the guy seems to have gotten bigger and slower. It is like watching Jamal Anderson out there. If he doesn't do anything for us next year, cut bait and move on because we are gonna be in trouble and dead weight is not what we need nor want.
Someone commented on how much better he was when playing from his natural spot which is Abe's I can't say I have seen it for my self but i'd be interested to see if that is the case. |

RE: I just hope for one thing
I feel like the defense needs a new coordinator, with a newer, more elegant/hybrid scheme. You can't tell me Abe and Edwards aren't athletic enough to drop back and play OLB in the 3-4. And it wouldn't even need to be all the time. The Falcons defense is loaded with talent; talent which isn't being fully utilized, in my opinion. I think they have hit their ceiling in the 4-3/Cover 2. I'm just not a fan of the scheme, unless you hybridize it and incorporate some additional alignments and pressure packages.

I don't want to make this into a JJ thread, my point still remains we not only over paided fo JJ but more importantly WR was not the postion of great need after our debacle of last year.... Defense was and still is the problem with this team.

We needed both. Julio was easier to acquire. The defense was not going to change by leaps and bounds by adding a piece, especially if that piece was a rookie. Julio has been pretty damn good for a rookie and one who had no OTA experience. Next year I think we will be amazed.
Now if we could have drafted a new DC with an innovative scheme to go along with it, that would be a different story. In other words, fixing the defense is going to be much harder, the problem is systemic, it's not just a talent issue and I'm afraid that it goes to the core of the organization. |

RE: I just hope for one thing
Defense against legitimate Offensive teams = Crap; Defense against meh teams = acceptable...at times.
Not sure why Edwards needs to be on one side or the other for him to be effective, but the D-line as a whole needs to actually take the QB down, instead of just rattling the cage. Sure argument can/could be made putting pressure forces the QB to make mistakes, but considering we will be facing QBs like Brees/Rodgers in the playoffs I doubt pressure rattles them easily, we NEED to take them down. -ROCK CHALK!!! |

We will not be able to find a top tier DE in the draft (no first round pick)....however, we can drastically improve our pass rush by drafting a pass rushing DT. Babs is falling off, Jerry is hampered by his knee (see Tommie Harris) and Peters is just one guy. We need a DT. |

We weren't gonna do that with Jenkins...we went out and got our 2nd choice after our first wanted crazy money. The plan was there, it just didn't work in our favor. That's life...this isn't a team who's window is closing, so I don't understand you constantly berating the pick. We have a stud in the making with Julio who can grow in an offense with one of the better 1-2 combos in matt and roddy...while hopes were higher for this season, we have the foundation for the passing attack we wanted, now we just need a pass rush specialist that we failed to get in free agency. The decision was the right one...this shit is chess not checkers, you can't just look at one year and say we fucked up |

RE: I just hope for one thing
Defense doesn't seem to be the problem with this team. Sure, they looked horrible last night, but that hasn't really been the norm for us all year. It's generally been our offense that has let us down.

The decision was the right one...this shit is chess not checkers, you can't just look at one year and say we fucked up I just never saw that WR was a postion of urgent need after last year even less an urgent one that made us sell the farm which we did to get one. Defense for me was an obvious need, I find the only way to beat an elite QBs is with a pass rush a good example of this is when the Giants beat the 18-1 Pats/Brady in the Super Bowl. We have an OK defnese but when it comes to elite QBs the only way to counter that is with an elite pass rush. I do realize it will take at least take 3 years to judge this trade if not more because of next year drafts. So far for me it hasn't worked out. I make a big deal about the trade for several reasons one of the major reason is the lose of depth. Look at how important depth was for GB last year. Whatever we can talk again in several years. |
