RE: Grantland on The Loss
That attitude, or acting "like a complete bitch", has our team committing less penalties than anyone, and is the reason we are 8-1.
You could not be more off base, I feel. That penalty cost us 4 points right there. Without it, we won easily. Of course he was mad. Formerly SBC Falcon

I can't recall another time when he went all pissy pants on our guys after such a momentum changing play, completely took the swagger out of our D. the result? 21 points in the first half. It cost us 4 points how? We still couldn't pick up a fist down. We gained 9 yards, we needed 12. That doesn't get us into the endzone. If anything cost us 4 points it was relying on Turner to pick up positive yardage. Can't blame 22 & 25 for the offense playing tight. Moore & Asante may be the easy targets but they are not the ones that felt comfortable with a 10 lead over one of the best offenses in the NFL. |

If NO had gotten a TD instead, missing that extra point by going for 2 instead would have had an impact. I agree. It's a hindsight approach. But I will say that there were many in the chat who mentioned going for two at the time. I just think that if we didnt hold N.O. to a field goal, they would have won regardless so thats why it was important. |

RE: Grantland on The Loss
When we commit bad penalties we lose or come close to losing. It's one of Smitty's important pillars of success.

RE: Grantland on The Loss
Moving us from the 12 to the 27 was huge. It changed our play calling, killed our momentum, and gave NO a hope of holding us, rather than breaking their spirit, at least in my eyes.

I think it showed with our subsequent playcalling on the series as well as the defensive effort throughout the remained of the first half. Sometimes you just gave to relax and give the guys some slack IMO.Smith & the FO knew what Asante was before they brought him here, they should have expected stuff like that, dude likes to showboat a little, its part of his game. The difference between this team and the other 4 teams that Smith has fielded is that these guys are playing loose, having fun and making plays. I don't ever ant to see that "tight" atmosphere around our team again, its an absolutely killer. Maybe that's why Smith throwing a tantrum after what was a gigantic play rubs me the wrong way. |
