Yeah that's the kind of thinking that kept MM and BVG around. 13 of the most pathetic wins a team could have. Beating up on bad teams while watching the defense fall apart in every 4th qrt but lets just be homers and say 13 WINS WE'RE AWESOMEZ!!!111!!!&

Given where we are now it was probably for the best long term. If we beat the Giants, maybe Mularkey doesn't get the Jags job, maybe Auburn hires someone else, maybe we are stuck with them. I know it sucked, but no pain, no gain.

Ifs and maybes go both ways. If we beat the Giants we might have won the Superbowl.

The point is a valid one and you do need to take risks and make difficult decisions in a league as competitive as the NFL to sustain long term success. Specifically, to improve a franchise to the point of winning a championship, there is no easy road.

Did we not beat the Packers, Saints, and Ravens? Wins are wins.

No doubt, but that's why it's called risk. But honestly, while beating the Giants would have been nice I didn't like our chances going on the road to GB or NO and I had no real expectations other than us pulling a rabbit out of a hat of making the NFCCG once the Lions lost.

My philosophy has always in the offseason been "Upgrade or get out!" If we can upgrade your position, you are outta here!
No free passes, no "you've been a great player for us", none of that shit! We need the absolute best players at every position to build a championship team!

Loyalty is loser! You must win your position battles!

I love the Falcons and to hell with anyone who doesn't!

I liked our chances just fine. We have beaten both those teams before; the win against the Saints was on the road as well. I also expected us to win against GB in the playoffs last season, despite how hot they were going into the playoffs. We all know how good those two teams can be but if you have watched the Falcons at all, you know we have come up with some amazing wins in the past four years.

I understand your line of reasoning based on our play this season and the eventual playoff outcome, but it is hard to imagine that any fan thought we would be that noncompetitive against the Giants before we played them. I am also not convinced we wouldn't have seen any coordinator/coach changes even if we had beaten the Giants. We were close to it happening last year.
