The Falcons signed the 15-year veteran to a one-year, $7 million contract extension Sunday, hours before the regular-season finale against the Buccaneers.

RE: Gonzo wants $7 million
Nowhere in this article does it say that Tony or his agent named the $7 million price, only that a player in the organization familiar with his thinking, which could just as easily mean it's bs.

RE: Gonzo wants $7 million
I think Arthur should offer him $3 Million, and then sign him after the year to a $4 Million per year "consulting" job. Gives us our cap relief, and he earns the same.

Would that be legal? (You know some of these signings happen with the GM walking out of the room "forgetting" his briefcase filled with cash!)

It's not a matter of legal or illegal, but i think the league has to approve of every contract, and I doubt that would get approved.

Does anyone know where we are with the cap right now? I don't know if we could resign Baker if we give TG 7 mil.

it's been spun around a bit, its the number that is being reported as his base salary or 2012 with an overall caphit of 5.9M but most of the other articles I read have him making near 8M last year.

I'm sorry I like Tony but you got the Green Bay tight end that was just released that's younger and just as good and can play WR too. I would love Tony to come back, but 7 is a little steep for his age, its like fuck the defense. Like we are going to have another year like this last one. If we got Tony with elevators to get him to 7 million, I would be good with that. Like Dude catch 12 TDs and 90 catches. But we need help with defense and also we need to resign. Cough. Sam Baker, hard to believe but he was the best lineman last year. Wink

RE: Gonzo wants $7 million
no way i want Finley....he sucks and is a cry baby...

I would get everything else signed and make sure we have the room, then sign him.

the other option would be to sign him to a lower priced deal then offer him a consulting fee as a TE coach the following year (thus avoiding the Salary cap) I have heard there are restrictions on how this can be done....but I am sure TD can figure out a way...
