Yeah it's a blue print to slowing him down but as he showed against San Diego the week before it won't stop him.

This week, after forcing it to him once and getting picked off I think Matt understood he couldn't keep going to that well so freely. Julio often from what I could see was being double or even triple covered. That 30 yard pass he caught was into a tight looking 3 man zone safety on top corner looked like he was playing man the. Took a zone and there was another defender very close by. Julio showed he understood the field there though and made the right move.

However on that sack Matt took where it looked like he was pumping. That was on Julio. He broke to the corner from where he was in field when he should have posted up in the seam. There was an easy window there. Matt was about to throw it saw where Julio went and pulled it down.

But yeah I don't really think you can stop Julio affecting you if he's on the field. If you are that worried about him to do what teams have fine to cover him. You are letting him beat you by giving other receivers those match ups. Thing is teams think Jones is the only explosive element to our offense and so if you want to limit how fast we score limit him. I think this week showed differently that you will get burned seven ways till Sunday ends. Thing is even with all of that he still came close to making one hell of a play. Part of his maturation will be that he always makes those plays.

I expect a good game for him next week. I think it's in the books. What we haven't done for a while is throw him those short routes and let him run. And I think that is one way to get him back into the swing of things in terms of production.

I don't think Julio attacked the ball as well this week (he waited for it) and that let defenders get in there more. I hope that has to do with his hand. What I want to see is Julio being a guy you can just throw it up to.

I don't see how people can blame JJ's hand for his performance in this game.

It was as blatantly obvious as any coverage I've seen since the old prime Randy Moss/TO days that the defense was using every kind of rolling and bracket coverage under the sun to keep Julio from getting the ball. And to give them credit it worked as perfectly as possible. Almost every pass thrown at Julio was broken up by a defender somewhere near his vicinity.

The good thing is that it left Roddy either wide open or in single coverage that he routinely beat. If teams want to go crazy trying to scheme Julio out of a game and leave Roddy wide open or in single coverage then I think Roddy is going to have a huge season.

There was only 1 play that JJ frustrated me on. A slant across the middle, he didn't come back at all for the ball and was trying to bread-basket it about hip-high, didn't extend his hands to catch it and just let it come into his body. That gave the corner enough time to reach a hand in there and knock it down.

Everything else was out of his control. Their defense just batted everything down and had him covered very well. He was less than an inch from having his foot inbounds and having made an incredible catch on that one.

If teams want to take JJ out of the game and leave Roddy and TG in single coverage, go for it.

This. If some team is stupid enough to overreact to this game and double roddy all game, then that's fine by me too.

Interestingly this is one of the big reasons for making the trade to draft Julio. If we still had a Jenkins caliber receiver it would've been Roddy who was taken out of the game and we probably don't come back to win it.

Pick your poison.

However I am sure there will be idiots out there looking only at the stat line saying we mortgage the future for this?

He still makes rookie mistakes out there. These are things he can and will get over. When you look at Roddy out there, he has played his entire career in triple and double coverage but still has no problems having big games. Julio will learn and it looks like he is spending a lot of time watching and absorbing Roddy that pretty soon he will make that next step.

If the DB doesn't make a great play Julio would have had an easy TD, he's still getting targets so it's not like they aren't throwing the ball his way.

Also I'm more concerned with Julio's recognition of coverage's that seems to be an area he needs to improve on. I recall 2 plays (1 was already mentioned) where Julio if he read the coverage could have broken off his route a certain way and both would have been very easy throws for Matt, one would have probably been a TD right up the middle on a slant.
