I am looking for the thread I started on the other board, but of course, it's down, so I am trying to google it from memory

Thanks for that. I remembered something about Nolan saying he ran the 46 as well as the 3-4 while there, but this was comprehensive and very helpful. THANKS!!! Smile

The guy has routinely flaked out in big games and sometimes I forget that he's even on the team. Every now and then he'll bust out a 3 sack game against a 3rd string QB or something and he's certainly not getting younger in the next few years. Maybe a 1 year contract okay, but I doubt that happens.

We already did the whole "Okay you're old, here's ONE more contract" thing with Gonzalez, I can't see us doing it with Abe too.

Gopnzalez was much more productive than Abraham, resigning him allowed the falcons to put a million of his salary on this years cap. Gonzo can do the Finn role of 3rd down/red zone threat for another 2-3 years.

Gonzo had really good numbers this year- not a deep threat, but you can't have everything. Think he had better & more effective numbers for his position than Abe did. A third of Abe's sacks came in one game.

Read that signing Gonzo when they did allowed them to count a million of his salary against the cap this year.

And Gonzo could be the 3rd down/ red zone specialist for the next 2-3 years if he wanted to, not at 7 million a year; he could take Finneran's place.

I think if we are staying pure 43 with 3 4 wrinkles, then drafting a DT who can play in both fronts would be better than going after Sol from Miami. That there is money that can go on an o lineman.

My reasoning being that picking up a big hog DT in the 3rd doesn't cost us so much. And we get a guy who can come in early and contribute in those situational 3-4 packages. In a year to 2 he would hopefully surpass an ageing Babs and this naturally pair up with Corey as the speArheads of our DT unit.

I would like to see Jerry gone to free up this space. In actual fact Vance Walker may already be that guy. He plays pretty hard and mean. Loved how he got after Brees

EDIT: whilst I still think walker should get Jerry's reps he is far smaller than I thought he was. If we do play 43 with hybrid then that hog would need to come from the draft.

I just can't see how you could bring in Soliali as a starter for us when we have Corey and Babs. Unless Babs is an FA, someone who is already here is getting demoted. Thoughts anyone?
