RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk?
Brent Grimes doesn't need to play bump and run.....because he can cover.

RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk?
There is no harm us in being one of those teams who had a D with some in bump and some in off depending on the player and or field position.

I wouldn't have a problem with he and Moore back there. Would much rather see that than Decoud.

It's amazing really, especially when reading the other board, you'd think these people would win the lottery and complain about taxes.

I don't mind Grimes leaving. We were serviceable without him.
Now with knee issues, he's no longer an asset for the price he wants.

Let him walk and let's just keep trucking forward.

RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk?
If Grimes is gone I believe his game is too... AB, TD, MS and MN are not going to let the man go if he can play at 100%.

I do think Grimes was unable to play against the Giants and the Falcons were wise to keep it until game day. No way Grimes lets his teammates down if he could have gone IMO.

I do not doubt however that his crazy wife pissed off the FO this past season... and if he did indeed choose to sit in the Playoffs, Miko wears the pants.

RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk?
I know we aren't the same type of organisation. But the dysfunction on the Eagles is something I would want to avoid by limiting the number of FAs we bring in.

Personally I feel that we need to bring in a big DT who allows the 34 elements in our hybrid to be truly effective. Not only this but there presence in our 43 package can bring better push in the pocket and stop the QB from just stepping up from our outer rush.

At DE I have two opinions. In Both Abe, does not return. He is a vet for us and a damn fine one. I'm talking as soon as possible we need to bring him in to our ring of honour. That being said we can't le emotional attachments way lay our future. We win the Super Bowl without him, give him the honorary ring, he sure as hell earned it whilst he was here just the whole Franchise didn't come together until he was pushing in to the back end of his career.

All this being said. Here are the two ways I could see that going. We sign a guy like Mathis from whom we can get a quality pass rush and Run stop end. He'd likely play 3 to 4 years before age is an issue, basically like Abe, but we can pay him the same sort of money and keep him for longer meaning greater continuity.

Alternatively, if Nolan sees it there we don't sign a big name end and just allow for the big DT to come in to improve pass rush up the middle. What happens at end? Edwards stays and settles in to his blind side spot. And whether it be an open comp or not Biermann Sidbury or Matthews takes the right side. At this point I think Kroy would be the best starter from there in an all rounder sense. That being said, Sid and Matthews would still see the field in rotation and in a better operated scheme as we will get with Nolan I believe they will be far more productive. They weren't terrible in their limited snaps by any means. I was impressed. There has to come a time when these young guys play or get cut.

At safety, if we could get him I would love Landry, but I don't see it happening, and depending on his ankle that may be a risk. I think we could see DeCoud stick around if Nolan wants him. Resigning him isn't going to cost us a lot. But Nolan is a teacher and safeties tend to benefit from being in his presence hopefully Thomas can grow up under his tutelage , I already am Confident Willie Mo will. And we should try to keep Sanders as a safety net for both.

Not signing a big money safety or End would in my eyes allow us if needed to have the money to keep Grimes, or if his knee really is that fucked, spend it on another FA at the corner spot or elsewhere. I like our guys Franks and Walls. One will be a 3rd year guy the other a 2nd but both have played well in their limited opportunities. I liked how well Franks played Johnson. He made good plays against him, sometimes you get beat in tight coverage but his tenacity and willingness and skill have me confident that Nolan can get him further. Owens is a mixed bag, I don't think you can play him at nickel, but he seems happier on the outside. I think if we bring an outsider in it would be someone like Carr or Flowers (forgot which is available). Reason being we need long term continuity if we aren't keeping our own vet we need to get younger but with a quality player if we are going to spend money on the position.

On to offense. Receivers apart from a low round receiver or UDFA. Nothing should change here. We should see Harry get resigned. It won't break the bank and I think his role is going to expand here.

Tight End. That 2nd round pick looks like the best place to sign Tony's heir we need one in and I am hearing guys like Orson Charles, Fleener and the Clemson TE, linked to the 2nd. We need a guy who can still throw a block and get out. We will also need someone who can attack that seam area and and mid field and has the ups to beat those safeties. You want that guy in early to watch and learn and play alongside the GOAT at the position. In truth I've been concerned we haven't gone for the guy in young TGs mould sooner. Let's face it no one we have currently is of that mould physically let alone talent wise. Or they haven't shown it yet.

Oline. I like Hawley at centre but I could also see Johnson in there as they both played at college. However it was said early Hawley was the heir. We urgently need a stonewall at RG. And I think that is going to come in FA. Unless Johnson is really ready to go ahead for us. I watched him blow Peters up at Kentucky, you know that guy paved the way for a lot or running. His pass protection has to be stellar whoever that RG is though. We need Matt to have that direct space a lot cleaner. At LT, I'm not sure what happens, I think if we can and want to someone new wont hurt the Chemistry of the pass game not with the long off season back, and with all the things Nokan will have the D throwing at them, I think they will be fine when it comes to feeling out how to pick up those blitzes.

In the back field I would advocate drafting a back, somewhere in the3rd or 4th. ( we will some how end up with a 3rd rounder) here we get a bigger all purpose back who in the early going and future can provide a compliment to Quizz and vice Versa. Snelling and Turner aren't gonna be around forever and having more guys in the stable at least gives us insurance for that.
