I don't know why certain fellow falcon fans keep bashing Grimes for getting beat by Graham when nobody on this squad can match up with Graham. But one thing I do know is this...Grimes has done more good than bad for this secondary. Unlike Dunta Robinson who is just dead weight of a roster spot. To answer you're question....I would probably say Willy Mo and I think that's highly doubtful. The bottom line is...it doesn't matter how much talent Grimes develop, he will always get belittle for something he has no control over, his height. |

We might lose Grimes and other personel, but I would also like to see who is brought in to replace them.... I would not personally like to see Grimes leave, but if his knee has pretty significant damage I would prefer to not overpay him.... I also was not a fan of him sitting out the Giants game..... I agree. But.. in that case. TD needs to get rid Peria Jerry. Dude was a walking bandaid in college and has been walking bandaid in the NFL. Dunta Robinson was gimpy as fuck and TD still signed him to a huge contract. With that being said I'm not saying sign Grimes to outrageous contract, but the man's work ethic what he displays on the field shows he deserves a nice contract aleast. 1 yr tender for pennies lol Grimes play on the field has clearly out grown that. If TD pays Grimes what he wants, I would be happy. If not, I wish him well on getting paid somewhere else. He deserves it. |

Falcons to let Grimes walk?

I bet that's exactly what it is. I have extensive experience with bitchcraft and this whole thing has all the signs. I hope we can somehow keep him but if (s)he demands a king's ransom that we can not pay there's not much we can do. |

RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk?
I'm sure someone will disagree with what I'm about to say and again I love Grimes. I'd love him back but not for a stupid price, and his knee does worry me. All it takes in a league with speed like this is to lose half a step and you aren't the player you once were. Even a quarter of a step. Grimes is not that great of a tackler IMO. His size definitely has something to do with it, but I saw a lot of times this past year where Grimes lost containment and took a horrible angle to make the tackle and got beat on the edge. For all the hate Dunta gets for his inconsistent pass coverage that boy can tackle! He gets in there, wraps up, and does his job on the edge 95% of the time. I can't say that about Brent, and if anyone notices when teams ran outside on us they would go to Grimes side for a reason.
Still would welcome him back, just saying he has flaws like any other player. And if he is dropping INT's the way he was this year then his value falls even more. It's one thing to put yourself in the right position, it's another thing to catch the ball.

RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk?
Grimes SHOULD Stay, but with a LOT of incentives in his contract. 5 Int's, Pro-bowl appearance, etc... Something that will both push him to make his money, and also to give us a reason to give him a "real" contract and not one based off incentives.
Only reason for incentives is to protect us from signing him long term and him maybe rehashed that knee and we're out money we could use to sign someone else. I love the guy, and appreciate all he's done for this org, but if his knee is a hinderance on his ability to jump we can't have him on the D. Too much of a liability. -ROCK CHALK!!! |

RE: Falcons to let Grimes walk?
I think we will make a concerted effort to keep Grimes, he is by far the best defensive back we have. Anyone who thinks our FO and coaches don't know that is delusional. That being said, his wife is a bit on the nutty side and very prone to running her mouth in public venues. I am sure she also wants to see Grimes get his big paycheck, possibly outweighing any loyalty Grimes feels towards the Falcons.
We simply can not overpay for him like we did with DRob and that makes the situation a bit more complicated due to how well Grimes has performed the last few seasons. I am not too concerned with his knee injury or him giving up a TD to one of the better pass catching TEs in the NFL. What I am more concerned with is the reason behind why he did not play against the Giants. If he was trying to protect his FA stock by sitting out of our playoff game, fuck that guy; we don't want those type of players in our locker room no matter how good they are. If, however, it was a decision made by our coaches to protect Grimes or because he simply could not perform his job, I completely understand it. |

Popular topic about why Pujols left St. Louis, being his crazy ass wife. I love Grimes, but think he is best in zone. If Nolan is going to have significantly more bump and run, not sure if Grimes has the size for it. I'd hate to see him go, but sometimes it has got to happen. At least we have seen some great play from Owens (in the Gints game) and Franks.

All Nolan has do is not run bump and run on his side of the field.
