RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
Like the Falcons, I'm prepared to move on without Grimes. Same with Abe, if it comes down to it.

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
Eh, Grimes is nice and without a doubt our best corner, but realistically he won't be a good deal. And we don't need ANOTHER bad contract. A lot of people hate, but Owens has all the physical tools to play in the league. I'm willing to see what we have with him and Franks and beef up both lines. Grimes didn't play that big a role in the New Orleans beatdown we received. We need men in the trenches.

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
If this is the case, I wonder if the team is actually thinking of Walls more than Owens or Franks. There seemed to be a lot of talk towards the end of the season that the staff really liked him.
Not saying that is the case, but it's a possibility. |

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
If we can get the pass rush to protect our secondary, whether grimes is here or not I'd like to see Walls in there for us more this coming season. Kid breaks on the ball like a beast. Yes he got burned against the jaguars on that one play, but moments before he came down on a pass he read perfectly he just forgot to stay calm keep his eyes on the ball. Grimes is going to be 30 this year. It just seems like he bloomed a little too late and had a contract too long to make use of his opportunity to maximise his cash. His first big contract will also be his last and realistically the money he wants there is no way we would cram it in to a 4 year contract. I don't think he has 6 years of play in him like that.

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
Might be a ploy to keep his contract down. Letting others "think" we feel he isn't worth the money and reminding them he was injured, had surgery, and didn't play could just take some bidders out of play.

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
Grimes is good, but lets take our red glasses off. He isn't a world beater at CB. Factor in with a knee injury, which we know nothing about and Grimes will be in a Cowboys uniform next year. Book it!
I do agree that Owens this year took some positive steps in coverage. Franks ehhh haven't seen enough to really judge but when either guy was in they weren't picked on constantly so that's a good sign I guess.

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
Our D line should be better. If we don't resign Abe then we can move to a normal Dline rotation where Abe doesn't bounce around the positions and hold up the development of the other ends. I read somewhere that Edwards had a hard time adjusting to this. I remember the GB game where Edwards played real well out of his usual left end side because Abe was out. Abe isn't good enough anymore to warrant that kind of attention.
Our d will be fine without grimes and Abe. I can't believe I wrote that but it might be true. |

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
The issue is his knee situation and his contract demands. Neither are appealing to the Falcons right now. Grimes with a bum knee is basically useless. If he cant jump 45 inches then he wont be very good - he's too short and he needs that vertical to compete.
I can see the Falcons hesitatancy with him right now. |
