Now it's my understanding that he is free to roam and we get zero in return. I don't think we went into this season with the intention of not signing him. Sometimes things change. Can't always see the future especially with how Owens played the end of last year. Secondly, at the moment this is pure speculation. |

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
I think it is the Falcons telling him to be realistic. He is really too short, he has a repaired knee and a crazy wife that likes to cause shit on twitter. I too wonder if the part of it has something to do with him not playing the NYG game--that was a little strange.

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
I was disappointed with the fact that he did not play against NYG, but in hindsight it wouldn't have made much of a difference. The FO needs to sit down with him and figure out what the hell happened, if they figure out he doesn't want to be here then he can leave.

RE: Falcons prepared to move on without Grimes
I would like to know why he didn't play against NYG, too.
My opinion is this: Between maintaining our secondary (by keeping Grimes) and upgrading our O Line, our O Line needs to be priority #1. So if it means we have to let go Grimes in order to have enough money to get some upgrades at LT and RG (and possibly C if McClure retires and Hawley isn't the answer) through FA and the draft, then I can live with that. I wouldn't be thrilled with losing a playmaker in Grimes, but I'd understand that the right O Line pickups can transform our O line into a NFL-caliber line that can make us more consistent on offense. As it stands now, our O line can't protect or run block well enough against the better teams in the league...and this hasn't changed for the better part of several years. Unfortunately, that means it will shortchange both sides of the offense by holding back the passing game through lack of pass protection and pocket formation, and it will hold back the running game by not allowing enough holes to be opened (for an already aging and slowing RB in Turner at that) so that our RB--no matter who it is--is constantly being blown up at the line of scrimmage or stopped for minimal games. And of course, it prevents us from moving the chains when we really need that foot, or yard or two to extend drives due to an overmatched O Line that can't get any push. We all saw it exposed against a very average NYG defense. That said, I would love to keep Grimes, and we may still do so, but whether we do or not, we BETTER not go into next season with the same LT and RG (and maybe even Center). It's time for some hosses on that line that won't get pushed around against the better teams in the league. It's long overdue. |
