I'm also remembering the cleveland game where he said if he'd been out there instead of kroy, he'd never have been able to make that tip, scoop INT and run it in too...so everything has to be taken with a grain of salt

i'm not sure when houston ever became serviceable? didn't he get cut or at least benched with detroit? i could be wrong...but i don't think he has ever been or will ever be a real impact on anyones defense.

again, i'll say this. in one thread you say 'thank god we have a competent FO' and in another your posts seem to diss the FO and anyone who expresses their support for this regime. i have GOT to go re evaluate my definition of bi polar

im not dissing the front office. i simply said they made a mistake. they can be competent and make mistakes. thats not bipolar thats objective. im not saying we need to fire TD lol all i said was that he tried to ignore the DE position too long while claiming other areas of the defense other than DE were the culprits. these same people claiming i hate td were laughing at me last year when we didnt get a FA wr and i said we needed to bring one in or draft another true #1 to play next to roddy because jenks was garbage and hd was a liability. i was called a maddenite etc... but what happened? we trade 4 picks to land a stud number 1 receiver next to roddy the following season. front offices make mistakes even the best. its sad that youre not allowed to point out their flaws without being called a hater.

and chris houston was more than serviceable as a matter of fact he was detroits starter and only saw the bench due to injury. he played pretty good last year.

Out of 100 qualifying CBs that played in 2010, PFF ranked Houston 75th, with an overall score of -4.5. Dunta was ranked 31st, scoring a +3.2.

Chris Houston is far from a serviceable CB. He's garbage.

As for Dunta's contract, the guaranteed money we paid to him and Edwards combined doesn't come close to matching the guaranteed money Peppers got - not to mention the money we would have had to pay to better Chicago's offer.

Personally, I'm thrilled we have Edwards and Robinson. You can keep your boy Houston and the rapidly aging Peppers with his albatross contract.

So PFF is the standard we're using? Ok. I can dig that. What you're saying is, we paid top dollar for the 31st best cb in the league last year? Really? lol

Chris Houston, playing as a LCB and not RCB has done decent in detroit and far from garbage. Yes he looked bad here but Revis would have as well with the neglected pass rush they had to work with.

How did PFF rank peppers last year btw? I don't have access to that site. He was far from 31st I know that for sure.

phil, coop did a thread about PFF's listing of Ray Edwards. they ranked the top 20 and the bottom 20 out of the top 85 edge pass rushers for last year and for the last 3 years. Peppers did not make the top 20 or the bottom 20 on the list for last year, but was at 18 for the last 3 years list. so for last year, it means he fell somewhere in between 21 and 65.....you don't have to be a member there to click his link and read that article.

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

I believe they were referring to the failure of JA98 more than anything. HE was supposed to be the fix for DE. Got paid a crapload of money and did NOTHING. Kroy was never drafted to be JA98.

Dunta was injured during TC and Pre-season. Played half the season, got injured again, then came back.

Guy did REALLY WELL for only playing close to 8 games or so on a new team with practically zero practice reps.

Everyone was expecting an immediate impact from someone paid that kind of money. But, they fail to recognize all the stuff surrounding the situation. IMO he deserves a pass for last year.

eh...Revis plays with a horrible pass rush, that's always been a Jets fans argument when making the Aso/Revis comparisons. if they don't send the house, they don't get pressure i.e., Revis Island...no help on the field, just him and his man because half the defense is coming on the blitz.

What you're saying is Dunta isn't a huge upgrade over Houston? Really? lol

Going strictly on coverage skills, Dunta ranked 21st out of 100 CBs last season. Houston ranked 72nd. If you don't see why we had to overpay a bit to upgrade the position, then there's really nothing more I can do for you.

We paid top dollar for one of the top CBs in the league who has the potential to greatly improve now that he has another year in the system and a decent pass rush to help him out, something Houston had going in his favor last season and coudn't capitalize on, BTW.

Again, Chris Houston is garbage. You either realize it or you don't.

As a pass rusher, which was our main area of need, Peppers ranked 3rd in 2008, 9th in 2009, 11th in 2010...

See a trend developing there?
