Off the top of my head i can think of vandenbosch, Morgan (in the draft), Antonio Smith (was coming from a 3-4 so he was a ?), kampman (coming off Major injury) and peppers (much better rde than lde plus he wouldve taken up waaay more cap). You're right you can't blame him for developing draft picks but depending on them and THEM ONLY as your ONLY option for a pass rush has proven disastrous. There wasn't a lot of options at DE but my point is, there were some. Am I the only one that remembers TD saying that the DE's WERENT THE PROBLEM? Thats why we broke the bank on Dunta last year and picked DT's in the draft 2 years straight. TD himself said that those areas were the reason that our pass rush was ineffective which was partially true but not entirely. We still needed serious help at DE, veteran and youth but he was hellbent on waiting out kroy biermann and sidbury. He was counting on biermann having a breakout year last year which didnt happen. thats all im saying here. |

RE: Falcons players react to acquisition of Ray Edwards
On another note, if you take the HUGE contract wasted on DRob and applied that money to Peppers, the deal isnt so bad. Id rather overpay for pep than drob any day. Our pathetic pass rush was making our secondary look worse than it really was, but the front office saw it the other way around.

RE: Falcons players react to acquisition of Ray Edwards
i'll be among the first to say that IN MY OPINION, DRob did not fully earn his salary last year. I'm remembering him gettng hurt in TC, I'm remembering him coming in to and having to learn a new system, and if my memory serves me right, the early OTA's showed he was having a good bit of trouble learning it.
on the other hand, i also remember that having him in our secondary made us MUCH MORE SOLID than when we had Dhall and Crisp Houston. As with the DE FA market this year, not a lot to choose from, last year, the CB market was very limited. yes, HE DID and DOES improve us over what we had before him, and i think he earned half his salary last year by just knocking that punk ass desean jackson out your opinion is your opinion phil, but to say WASTED about DRob just solidifies a lot of OUR opinions about you Chew on THAT, Petunia!

Well I'll take the "thank god its about time" responses by roddy and abe in regards to finally bringing in some help.

I'm also remembering the cleveland game where he said if he'd been out there instead of kroy, he'd never have been able to make that tip, scoop INT and run it in too...so everything has to be taken with a grain of salt Chew on THAT, Petunia!

I just feel like our secondary got all the blame for what was really not always their fault. Im not even going to cut and paste the countless interviews that TD gave that said our pass rush problems would be solved without addressing the position. I dont have to, I just dont see why people want to argue about it as if it never happened because it did. Its the same people who always come to his defense if you dare make a claim that he is not the almight all knowing messiah of nfl gms. |

RE: Falcons players react to acquisition of Ray Edwards
phil, i'm not arguing with you about the secondary getting more than their fair share of the blame. it's that same ole 'secondary is better with a good pass rush/pass rush is better with a good secondary' discussion. they go hand in hand to me, it's why it's a TEAM sport.
i'm not sure when houston ever became serviceable? didn't he get cut or at least benched with detroit? i could be wrong...but i don't think he has ever been or will ever be a real impact on anyones defense. again, i'll say this. in one thread you say 'thank god we have a competent FO' and in another your posts seem to diss the FO and anyone who expresses their support for this regime. i have GOT to go re evaluate my definition of bi polar Chew on THAT, Petunia!
