Falcons Are Now 8-0; Still No Respect

November 5, 2012 By David Johnson (Website Owner) Comments (0)

Its 11 am MST on a day after the Atlanta Falcons beat the disoriented Dallas Cowboys to go 8-0 for the first time in their franchise history, and the Falcons still aren’t getting any respect. And I’m not about to give them any respect either. At least not now. Just an “Atta Boy”!

I will acknowledge that Matt Ryan has finally elevated his game to that next level, and those two Pro Bowl wide outs they have, Roddy White and Julio Jones, are flat out ballin’ to go along with that defense that is very much improved. But that’s where my props begin and end when it comes to the 2012-2013 Atlanta Falcons.

Last Thursday Falcons tight end, Tony Gonzalez made a comment to a USA Today reporter about how if the Falcons were the Patriots, Eagles or Giants, they would be getting a lot of publicity/respect for their 7-0 start (at the time of his comment) to the season and great play on both sides of the ball. Most people agreed with that statement including myself. However, people who aren’t Falcons fans such as myself, knew that we have seen this from the Falcons before. Why should anyone give respect to a team that has yet to do something to earn it?

(To steal a line from Dennis Green, “We might as well crown their ass”!)

Like anything in life including respect, you have to earn it. Don’t expect for respect to be given just because you have gone now 8-0 for the first time in your franchise history during the regular season. Respect is earned in the playoffs and in championship games no matter what sport or league it is, or on any level. As long as Tony Gonzalez has been in the league, you would think he would know this. What Tony fails to realize is that the Pats, Giants and Eagles have at least won a playoff game in the past 4 years. The Falcons…….not so much.

As I said earlier, I and many people have seen this movie before when it comes to the Atlanta Falcons. They win 9 to 13 games, get into the playoffs, and get smoked!
No one who is a fan of the game of football, except for delusional Falcons fans, are wondering on which one of the many streets in Atlanta that are named “Peach Tree”, will the parade route start and end on.

Remember that 2010 season when the Falcons went 13-3, dominated almost every week. Then come playoff time, a 9-7 Green Bay Packers team, who the Falcons had just beaten a few weeks before, beat the snot of them?! If you don’t remember, let me jog your memory….the game was basically over at halftime. Matt Ryan threw a pick six to Tramon Williams on an out route with about a minute and some change on the clock right before half time.

So, it’s kind of hard to get all “giddy” about the Atlanta Falcons when they have had seasons like this before and have yet to win a playoff game over a four year period.

I mean hell, the Texans made it to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history last year and won their first playoff game with a 5th round, backup, 3rd string rookie QB. And he almost beat Ravens in Baltimore the following week!

Tony G……. Dirty Bird fans….no one, including me, has hate for your team, nor says your team isn’t noteworthy. Its just that your team hasn’t done anything noteworthy enough for us, (non-Falcon fans) or the national media to give you the respect you’re looking for, as your team has yet to do anything REALLY “noteworthy”. Until you do….(like win a playoff game or a Super Bowl)… the Falcons will continue to get a really nice “Participation Ribbon” like kids who compete in the school science fair, but don’t win get.

See you in the playoffs…
