Draft Grades Are Coming In
So far, we have:
From SI: Quote:Without a first-round pick because of the move up for Julio Jones last year, the Falcons struck gold when Peter Konz fell to them at 55. It was mostly downhill from there, a slide started by the reach for OT Lamar Holmes, a major project, at 94. Troy DE Jonathan Massaquoi (164) might bump this group up down the line. Grade: C From ESPN: Quote:Kiper graded the Falcons with a C. I think the Falcons did a nice job of addressing needs, particularly with Wisconsin’s Peter Konz in the second round. He should solidify the interior of the offensive line. Grade: C From FoxSports: Quote:They traded away their first-rounder in order to get receiver Julio Jones last season, and that's a plus. When you consider they also traded for Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel, they helped their defense big time. General manager Thomas Dimitroff then used his picks to upgrade his offensive line with Wisconsin guard-center Peter Konz and Southern Miss offensive tackle Lamar Holmes, who has long arms and figures to go beyond his 325 pounds. Both of these guys are mean and bring a lot of tenacity. ... Love the pick of Wisconsin fullback Bradie Ewing, who should help in goal-line situations and in pass protection. Grade: C From Yahoo Sports: Quote:The trade last year for Julio Jones left the Falcons without a first-round pick. Jones was solid last season but hardly good enough to justify giving Atlanta a great grade. However, the selection of Konz, who some people projected as a first-rounder, is a nice pickup, and Holmes is a solid prospect for the right side of the line. Still, the real impact of this draft will be measured by whether Jones becomes the star the Falcons expect. The trend is good, but the Falcons still didn't advance in the playoffs last season, so there was no net gain. Grade: B- From CBSSports: Quote:Best pick: Landing center Peter Konz it the second round fills a need with Todd McClure getting up in years. Konz can also battle for the right guard spot. Seems like a pretty solid consensus of pundits give our draft a C. Personally, I'd give it either a B+ or an A-, but then again, I'm biased. The Man In Black

RE: Draft Grades Are Coming In
As we all know, these grades are all for show. Of course we're going to get a C, we didn't have a 1st round pick. If we still had our 22nd and got Reilly Reiff or David DeCastro in addition to Konz at 55 and maybe sombody like Brandon Thompson or Ladarius Green in the 3rd along with the rest that we got, we'd be getting an A+ from everybody.
Now in 3-4 years when they actually can get a bona fide real grade on this draft, if Lamar Holmes, Massaquoi, and Robertson are all starters who've been playing very well or even dominating their positions, we're going to get an A+ then too. Hell, if Julio ends up being all-world one of the top 2 receivers in the league every year, they'll probably just give us A+ for both 2011 and 2012 no matter what else anyone else we drafted is doing. It's all just proverbial crap for the mouth breathers in the end anyways. |

RE: Draft Grades Are Coming In
We trade up for JJ, and all the talking heads scream we gave away the draft for one player.
This year, every team is trying to trade up and reach for players they like because cost of doing so makes getting one player you like better than getting several that are OK. TD understood rookie pay scale and abused it before anyone, but they get the credit this year for doing what TD did first, and better. Those "C"'s mean nothing to me. JJ's trade was an "A" for last year and this one, alone. Formerly SBC Falcon

RE: Draft Grades Are Coming In
Draft grades mean nothing to me! The team we field and our winning the Superbowl is only measurement of success needed. The rest is just a pissing contest with other fans.

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Draft Grades Are Coming In
I don't beloved we would have reached for JJ if it wasn't for McKay. He was in charge of the rookie payscale negotiations. He knew we'd be fine with the deal because it wouldn't cost us much money.
