Hamilton, Boudreau, BVG just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are some other lower level coaches.

I agree whole heatedly with every aspect of this statement.

Best part about this.... he's a sideline coach. That's the biggest thing I disliked about MM was that he remained separate from the players. I want him to get in our players faces, get on the sidelines and explain what the D is doing.

So many times our players would goto the bench and just wait for their next turn. In the NFL, you have to plan and fix during the game. This alone is one of the reasons I like the pick.

Also, over Clements, at least he's been a coordinator and knows what to do from all levels of coaching. A QB coach doesn't always translate into a great coordinator.

Agreed. Martz is the one guy I didn't want, for that reason.

Having said that, if they get aggressive in FA and go after a guard and tackle, I might feel better. Ryan has a quick release and makes quick decisions, so if we can slow down the pass rush, it could be deadly. The offense really does play right to his strengths in terms of the passing game. I know people hear "vertical" and they think run to set up play-action, but that's not what this cat is doing. He's stretching the defense in 2 different directions and making them defend the entire field, and the QB and receivers are making reads to determine where the routes go based on the coverages shown. Ryan is cerebral, and that's right up his alley. If we can protect him, this could get ridiculous in terms of offensive firepower. So I guess I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic, but we have GOT to get an o-line at long last. There is no other choice.

this is the best point i've heard besides the dude having an offense in the pac10 during the USC OREGON and CALI era that averaged 400 yards passing and close to 40 points a game.

it isn't unheard of to get top tier talent at gaurd in the 2nd round. might have to do the annual trade up.

i am with you on this point. i never liked that mm stayed in the booth. sometimes even a tom brady needs the OC to get in his face. hopefully this will bring some fire to the sideline. and my honest opinion is he can't be any worse than mularkey's mularky was

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

MM distanced himself. sometimes you have to pat your players on the ass. or grab em by the face mask and make sure you pop your p's

Come on folks. Calm down. The press conference publicly alerted Mike Smith that his ass is firmly planted in THE HOT SEAT.

Mike Smith is no fool. If he hired Koetter, it is because he thinks Koetter will get the most out of our players ASAP. Every one of us has a self preservation instinct....M Smith is no different.

Give Koetter a chance.

RE: Dirk our New OC
Yeah all of this is depends on getting the o line, sure that up and yeah we can come to play. Thing is in my guy I thought this might be MS's guy. He loved Jones Drew, and Rogers was and is his guy from what I have read. The comments about Rogers featuring heavily seem in line with the hire as Koetter picks up a back up or 2nd starter who has the identical skill set and near identical physical make up of the back he just left in Florida.
