i'd rather have an unknown who is just awaiting a chance to show what he can do (like the way i liked the mike smith hire) than someone who's not really shown he can do a whole lot. that's my opinion. notice how i stated it without breaking any rules, calling anyone names and/or disrespecting anyone elses opinion because it's different than mine....

arizona state certainly isn't a garbage but it certainly isn't 1st tier when it comes to pac10 talent. anyone can be a millionaire when you're given a million dollars.

Dumbasses. Like I said earlier this decision was going to be telling. I fear that it was. I have no choice but to support this, but at best I'm in "wait and see" mode. I think much less of Mike Smith than I ever have. There is absolutely no excitement or anticipation, none. I feel like I've already seen what's coming. At this point my only hope is that I'm completely wrong. If ever there was a time to be wrong it is now.

On the surface at least it looks like we are going for more of the same so I'll expect more of the same, even less next year because of the coaching changes. Philosophically it's obvious to me that this is the direction Smith has chosen, now he will live and die by his philosophy, but I have a very hard time believing that this is what TD had in mind. This also tells me that the troubles with Mularkey were also at least in part troubles with Smith, I've wondered how much of Mularkey's stubbornness was was a result of Smith's input, I was hoping this wasn't the case but this is exactly what I was afraid of. For the first time since 2007 I am not feeling positive about the franchise.

This whole wife swap with Jacksonville we seem to be into just makes me ill honestly. Today is the day that the dream of having a modernized, creative offensive scheme died and will remain dead until the day Smith is no longer the head coach (not calling for this to happen, but it is the reality).

In hindsight there was no due diligence. They didn't interview multiple candidates, there was no self reflection. In the end we made a snap decision taking the safe and easy way out. Hiring Jacksonville's sloppy seconds speaks for itself.

To me this signals that Smith isn't open minded enough to question his own philosophy, instead he takes the safe route with someone that he is familiar with that supports the same philosophy, which in isolation is one thing, but I have no confidence that this philosophy is a championship winning one, not in today's NFL, without either an all world D or lots of good fortune. I'm thinking the play it safe game plan against NY goes to the top. I don't think this helps Ryan develop at all. When I hear "vertical passing game" I think of Al Davis, 7 step drops and Ryan getting hammered like in the Chicago game.

I keep going back to what I read on the Jags board last week:

I really hope I'm wrong but this just has fail written all over it.

Those saying this doesn't seem to be what TD wanted or visioned, I just want to say that Koetter's philosophy appears to reflect that vision, in as far as having 2 big receivers attacking down field. Other ways of doing that but it seems to be the way they are going. Koetter has shown where he played to a team's strength. Perhaps here with a more complete team this will be where he can marry both those schemes together. I am sceptical. But he is here now, hopefully we will all be saying different end of next season

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported the news.

To say that Koetter will have more talent to work with in Atlanta than in Jacksonville could be the understatement of the year. While he will not have Maurice Jones-Drew, he will have Michael Turner and receivers like Roddy White and Julio Jones — not guys like Chastin West.

A Jacksonville reporter was just on 680 the fan saying a lot of really good things about Koetter. He said he was held back by Del Rio and his best receiver would be a 3rd receiver on most teams. Also, they put everything into defense this season and did nothing to help the offense.

The guy said Koetter has to be ecstatic thinking about our offensive weapons. The reporter thinks very highly of this guy and thinks it's a very good hire for us even though he is a no name.

He mentioned that the guy probably would have been Denver's head coach this year had they not wanted to go with a big name(John Fox).

I felt a lot better after hearing what that guy said so I will try to stay positive about it.
