RE: Dirk our New OC
He was the first on our list according to LaCanfora
Invest in the trenches with high draft picks and we will see both sides of the ball vastly improve.

RE: Dirk our New OC
Interesting to see what happens with Douglas and Turner, whether they will be here or not come season time. Koetter knows how to use the short passing game with guys like MJD, to me Snelling and Rogers are better suited to that part of his offense. I don't know about HD, can Koetter use a smaller nippy guy like him to harrass the linebackers with a tight end keeping the pressure off of him buy attacking the safeties in the seams and middle stretch. Or vice versa. Will we finally see Meier get on the field. Koetter had a big physical guy in Jacksonville with that big bald headed dude with the beard. Speed and body wise himself and Meier are similar except knows the field and nuances of his position better.
Boy it will be interesting to see what happens with Atl now. |

Read my thread for his offensive philosophy regarding multiple WR's. |

RE: Dirk our New OC
Also I can understand the signing on offense being urgent as its senior Bowl next week. They really want the OC there. And with clements possibly locked up until feb it's hard to wait. That and he could now be the OC in GB.
Really got to wonder who the DC will be, they may be willing to wait on this a little longer considering the Head coach is the genesis of our scheme. Although a new DC may run something new within that structure as compared to BVG. The fact that all the news is about our search is OC based leads me to believe our chief DC need is indeed Spags or someone tied up in the playoffs or in an uncertain contract spot. |

RE: Dirk our New OC
Like everyone else, I am not impressed. But, if I had a choice, I would rather be impressed at the end of next season, than happy with a known name right now.
Having said that, we need to find out why Koetter was chosen. For one thing, we know that Smith and Koetter get along very well. That had to be a major factor. I think that we can assume that Mike Smith wanted a guy that he can trust as well as a coach that will respect his desire to dominate time of possession. I don't know the type of scheme Koetter will employ, but I think it is safe to say that he is not a WCO guy. Hopefully, he will try to include some principles of the WCO to take advantage of the physical WR's that we have. From what I have read, Koetter has the rep of liking the deep ball. To go that route, we need a much better OL. With the exception of Blalock, the OL is simply not up to the task of protecting Ryan with seven step drops. Well, it is time to find out more about this guy. |
