Turns out, there are 2 types of franchise tag. you're damned straight i would!!!! i know i'm in the minority, but when i read they franchised him, i cringed. i just don't think he's worth 10.8 million, go ahead and flame away,i don't care, i'm entitled to my opinion Chew on THAT, Petunia!

I'm more and more fed up of baggage this situation carries with it. And if Brent does stick his feet in and not sign I'd rather not have him back. Again a team will have superstars but we don't need self centred divas or people with those types hanging off of them. |

RE: Dimitroff: Falcons to franchise Grimes.
I don't understand all the angst over the $10.8 mil price to tag Grimes. It's essentially a one year deal and it in no way cripples the team to make moves now or down the road. Plus it more likely that this is just a place holder until we work out a long term deal with him.

RE: Dimitroff: Falcons to franchise Grimes.
I'm not so bent out of the shape with him having the money so much as it is a case that he may not sign the tender. I know it's a negotiation but the bullshit is fucking with other things. I know we should have signed him up in 2010. But for one reason or another there was a drop off in his play this year and if we bring him back for that much money then he needs to play like he is earning it rather than earned it.

RE: Dimitroff: Falcons to franchise Grimes.
it's not angst on my part by any means, i just don't think he's worth it any more than DRob is worth what we're paying for him, or Baker or Jerry, etc....i'm just tired of seeing this team overpay for people. Now, i DO know that grimes level of play is higher (not counting his UPS) than those 3 added together, but i just don't think dude is worth over 5 or 6 million a year
oh yeah, the three kinds of lies, lies damned lies stats from what i saw on the field last year, his level of play wasn't the same level we'd seen the previous 2 years Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Dimitroff: Falcons to franchise Grimes.
I wonder how much of the "we won't sign" is agent vs Grimes vs the bitch. If it's the agent, ok, fine it's just posturing. If it's the bitch, wouldn't be surprised. If it's Grimes then he truly is a fool and deserves a nice knee injury before he signs anything.

I'd be willing to trade grimes for less than that

However, tagging him for one year to hold the fort is worth it over hoping for the best in a multi year deal. If his knees go out, he is worthless.

RE: Dimitroff: Falcons to franchise Grimes.
For all the things I know about football a particular gap in my understanding is what happens if Grimes does not sign the tender. Can he sign an offer sheet elsewhere? I understand we likely have compensation somewhere but if some could explain the situation I would appreciate it. As the way I see it currently without us being compensated for his loss somehow Grimes will either play for us or not at all this year. If so is that money actually tied up with him or could it go elsewhere. I can't see where a player can do anything but refuse to sign and run the risk of sitting out a whole year. But at the same time surely the team can't be penalised with his salary? I find it confusing.

But at the same time surely the team can't be penalised with his salary? I find it confusing. Well it depends on whether we put the exclusive or non-exclusive franchise tag on him. If we put the exclusive tag on him he can't talk to other teams and if he doesn't sign the tender he's essentially holding out, so he won't get paid. If we put the non-exclusive tag on him he can negotiate with other teams and we have the right to match any offer, if we decide not to match the offer we get two 1st round draft picks from the team he signs with. EDIT: Also it is standard procedure for the player not to sign the tender right away while the player and team try to work out a deal. If they can't come up with a deal by camp they'll normally sign it and play out the year. And the franchise tag doesn't hit the cap until the player signs the tender.
