Deja Vu
Turner stuffed at the LOS. Opposing defenders constantly leaking into the pocket. Ryan finishing way too many plays on his back. Plenty of 3rd and longs, quick checkdowns and the dreaded rollout. Where have I seen this movie before?
I've said it before and I'll say it again: This offense goes as the O-line goes. Yes, having JJ and a healthy HD should allow us to occasionally turn some of those short passes into big gains as was the case Friday night, but anyone expecting to see more down-the-field shots or a higher YPC from Turner this season may be in for a disappointment if this blocking unit continues its spotty play from the last two years. Hopefully, last night's poor showing from the O-line was just a result of preseason indifference. If not, I fear the trend of our offense bogging down against good defenses will continue. |

RE: Deja Vu
That's true about the o-line. If they play bad it will make things difficult on the offense as a whole in both the rushing and passing game. It was an issue last year and is why Ryan was checking down Joey style at times. But it's preseason, they are working on it, hopefully they will get it figured out, they are going to have to if they want to be making the explosive plays. I would love for Ryan to have the (what seems like to us) luxury of 3-4 seconds to make his reads instead of the 2-2.5 he's been getting. I was all ready to blame Baker last night but it seemed like the Jags were getting lots of pressure up the middle, and McClure wasn't in there so hopefully that will improve.

RE: Deja Vu
I think the same can be said about any team where the offensive line doesn't perform as they should..

RE: Deja Vu
i don't want to see us go into the second game to score a touchdown again this year. In the back of my mind, i really think preseason indifference has a LOT to do with it. but i'm not so sure it's 'holding back to not show anything'. if that were the case the reverse to JJ last week wouldn't have happened JMHO
Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Deja Vu
Could be a setup for a play that calls for Julio heaving a pass down field to Roddy for a TD

RE: Deja Vu
Only time will tell whether our O line is a step backwards from last years, or the same. (I'd be pleasantly surprised if it were better, and that could happen, but I'm not holding my breath on that).
However, the good news is, even if we have to put extra people in to pass block (essentially screaming to the world, "Here comes a pass play!"), we have better receivers out there, and we can probably still make it work. Obviously, Julio. But Douglas is looking great, as are Weems and Meier. We could keep 7 in to pass protect and still have Roddy, Julio and Douglas out there. Someone will probably get open most of the time we do that. |

RE: Deja Vu
I read reports that we were dominating the Jags all week in practice. I'm not worried. We were just out of sync.
