RE: Defensive Coordinator Options
Del Rio has been gone a while and yet they are still are performing, so even if its Del Rio's Scheme and his Philosophy, its Tucker who is making it work now. Thing is Coach Smith was under Del Rio, did he run Del Rio's scheme or was it his own, its definitely not the same as what was being run in Jacksonville that is being run here. Perhaps bringing in another Jacksonville guy like Tucker could be the key to getting the D that Smith wants.
All this being said its hard to predict any of this without knowing whether the D being run is Smith's product or his DC's. Who is sugar bear? |

RE: Defensive Coordinator Options
Spags would be a HUGE score for this team. That guy is outside of the box in his philosophy and his defensive thought process. I wouldn't want anything to do with Del Rio. Tucker would be good. But you know who else would be a great DC? Ray Hamilton. How come this guy doesn't get a shot?? He's been one of the top DL coaches in the league for years. I wouldn't consider him a "project".

Invest in the trenches with high draft picks and we will see both sides of the ball vastly improve.

RE: Defensive Coordinator Options
Check out some of third down blitz calls. Very exotic looking and blitzers coming from all over the place...What happened to that from Coach Smith?

RE: Defensive Coordinator Options
I never wanted BVG to begin with and he shows once again he is a college DC and nowhere near a NFL one. Our defense simply can not get off the field or hold anyone on third down. It has been a running joke with my family and friends since BVG took over that when we have the opponent to third and long I instantly quip "They have us exactly where they want us" and sure enough they convert. Over and over and over. Enough is enough. Get rid of the college guy and get a real DC in here.

RE: Defensive Coordinator Options
Looking at the video posted, honestly I think Smith needs to just take control of the Defensive plays. BVG apparently doesn't know when to blitz or how to blitz properly, or even when to make sure there aren't weak ass zones in a 3-10+ situation.
I'd really be interested in having that Mel Tucker guy come here with all things considered in Jacksonville and how poorly they've preformed offensively, Defense has held its ground as well as it can. -ROCK CHALK!!! |

RE: Defensive Coordinator Options
I am not so sure that Mel Tucker's defense would look any different from BVG's. Login Mankins recently mentioned that Tucker's defensive scheme was simple and featured basically the same look play after play. To me, that sounds a lot like BVG's defense.
I would expect some differences with a Spags' defense. First, and foremost, we would be drafting DE's early and often. There would not be a need to change much in our secondary, because we would be pressuring QB's every down. We would probably need to find a big hoss for a NT.....someone has to stay behind and stop the run. |

We need to get someone that does not come from the South East.
