Falcons D. Rob new position maybe?

RE: D. Rob new position maybe?
I voted yes as he seems to have more upside there than downside. However what needs to be taken into consideration is as a safety you are the last line of defense. Dunta's lack of body control when going in full steam could create several issues.

1. Missed tackles from your safety be it on the ground or in the air creates big plays.

2. He will need to control himself and time his hits from the safety position or we could be seeing him fined and suspended during the season.

3. I'm not sure how he would do against Tight Ends. Can't be worse than what we have in DeCoud and having him there at least brings that second thought of whether he is bringing a tree or a whole forest on a play.

4. Moving Dunta to safety solves one problem but what happens on the corner spot. If Franks is ready for perimeter duty then perhaps but obviously it is a move we make with at least one starting quality corner in place otherwise we are effectively shifting our weakness from safety to corner.

On the flipside here are the benefits.

1. Restructure him and keep a guy who probably should have been moved far earlier rather than let him go. You maintain the chemistry in the backfield to a degree. Also wider than football, the guy does a lot in the community.

2. Playing Moore at Free Safety and Robinson at Strong Safety. If we have a new guy in at Robinsons old spot having a guy like Moore over him would help to settle that player in whether it is one of our current guys or someone new having someone behind them who isn't just starting out at the position makes a lot of sense. At the same time. You have a very solid Grimes holding down his spot with Dunta over the top. This could be in the beginning a boom and bust type pairing. But with Dunta being further off the line he should be able to see and react better than he does currently when he is off the line and scrambling around covering someone immediately in front of them.

Making a move like this however requires that we have a formidable pass rush in play though. That would take a lot of heat off the secondary, otherwise you would find that the falcons secondary would get tested quite aggressively early on. If the pass rush can force the ball out quick then Dunta can play down hill and that is where he can do the best of his damage. He can break up down field plays with his athleticism and timing but there wouldn't beamy Ints I am assuming. However if he can come down hill force fumbles and incompletions then that is where his greatest value will be.

Finally you have to look at it and say does Robinson give the Falcons the best shot at having a Dynamic player alongside Will Mo at the safety position. Guys like Reed and Polamalu have sent the blue print for the Modern NFL safety these are guys who can, or in their better days could cover the entire field and still bring it hard and heavy. If an evaluation doesn't show that Dunta can be that guy then he may be a short term bandaid but not a longterm solution.
