I have always thought it was because most QB's are right handed. That puts his blind side on the left. If a DE gets by on the right he can see him. Thus the LG would typically be as you say on an island. I think it is harder to go from RT to LT if RT is where you usually play because all your movement is reversed and your more on your own. Obviously everything is reversed if QB is a lefty. That's been my thought anyway...

It is coach able but the thing is the way your body moves and how you adapt to your opponent is different on the 2 sides. Because in pass protection the responsibilities are in a way different. I agree it is coachable, but you don't want someone learning the nuances of a new position and new scheme at the same time. Well I don't, it just seems like too much thinking going in in a vets head.

athleticism obviously can't be coached, but you can work on it. dance classes, weight training, plyometrics etc.
