2 point conversions - Is Smith Allergic?
I love Coach Smith, but is he allergic to 2 point conversions. I was asking why we weren't going for 2 when we got our last TD. Going up 13 vs going up 14 is HUGE, but being up 13 vs being up 12 is really nothing. With so little time, 2 td's would beat us, and a TD and 2 FG would tie. They were not going to get 3 good scoring drives, so go for 2 and give us a 14 or 12 point lead. 13 points is useless there. If we were to get another FG, even if we had 12 points, 15 would be the same as 16.

It all worked out, but Coach Smith really needs someone to explain when going for 2 vs 1 is essential.

I wish he would have gone for the two, not sure why he didn't or what he was thinking. Just bad management there because we all knew that even if we didn't get any it would still be a field goal game.

You dont want that second field goal to beat you so not going for 2 was the smart thing imo

3 possessions? No, with the clock that was left, going for 2, even if you only had a 20% chance of making it, was the smart decision (but you can't say "right" decision, because those only exist in hindsight).

It was the 3rd quarter so there was plenty of time for them to have 3 scoring possessions.

Also I said "imo" so it was right to me...lol

It doesn't make any sense to go for 2 when you're up by 3 touchdowns. You don't expect your team to blow a 27-7 lead.

I love Smith but I absolutely agree and was glad to see this post... Someone needs to make him a chart!

Score, QTR and time remaining... Could probably find one on Google.

It made every bit of bit sense!

We go up 28 to 7 and and that three TD comeback would have left us tied with a chance in OT if Matt misses the FG...

We miss the two point conversion and it's 26 to 7... Three TD's makes it 28 to 26 and that last FG still wins the game for us.

This

It gives us an extra out, and cost us ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! It's like playing with house money.

Unless you think they will score 24 points in one quarter, having 26 or 27 points is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE. Nothing (except safetys... and no one was playing for extras of those off of kickoffs) would matter for our score. If they score 3 Td's, they win, whether we have 26 or 27, but if we make the 2 point conversion, it's a tie.

Having 26 or 27 does not matter, as one field goal from us makes us beat 3 TD's from Seattle. With 1 quarter left, you have to figure a limited amount of scoring opportunities. Go for 2, and we don't need a FG to prevent losing from 3 TD's. The extra point only protects us from 2 TD's and 2 FG's (you really think Seattle would have 4 scoring drives in the 4th?).

Missing the 2 point conversion is meaningless. Either we make it, and are better off (and would have saved ourselves the possible grief today), or miss it, and are exactly where we would be had we kicked the extra point.

Don't just dismiss this, guys. Think about what I'm saying! The math doesn't lie!
