I don't think any team that passes more often than it runs should be classified as "run first".

agree totally...i think swift got caught up in the positional ranking as opposed to the actual numbers.

i don't think we are run or pass first. i think we are balanced.

of course I understand balance and yes this year we have showed more balance then first 2 years that is showing Ryan is growing into the QB position and Mularkey is starting to open it up more. I also believe Ryan can carry us on his back in a playoff game if a team was ever to contain Turner , Ryan can lead us on his back he showed that clearly in the Bal game this year ..

With that being said were going to win as a TEAM , and were going to lose as a team but if our running attack is on and Turner is tearing it up were going to be very tough to be beat cause that opens up the passing attack and forces teams to drop the S in box to contain Turner ..sets uo the play action passes and out routes to Roddy

This is a well balanced team ..Our defense has made strides /Our QB has made huge strides the oline is gelling, the wr corps have been solid ..

There is no reason why we shouldnt at least win one playoff game this year

ANYTHING LESS THEN A PLAYOFF WIN ESPECIALLY AT HOME WILL BE A DISAPPOINTMENT on the season from my view of things ..

Yes we are going to win division
Yes we finish 13-3 /14-2

a playoff game in 3rd year of system needs to show results in the process

PS - there was an article on NFL.com not long ago with the surprising news that most of those teams would take Ryan over all the other young starters. The unfortunate reality is that there is a sizable contingent of our fanbase who believe that simply taking a pessimestic and contrarian viewpoint makes them more insightful than the rest of the zombified, Kook Aid drinking herd. To such people, looking at all the great things that have transpired since the TD/Smith regime took over and seeing a reason for optimism is somehow being "unrealistic." Hence, these folks will go to great lengths to amplify and dissect every little weakness this team has and every little setback this team suffers in a pathetic attempt to validate their untenable position.

The good news is that most of these doomers disappeared after the first Saints game. The bad news is that the ones who stuck around are now twice as desperate to be seen as the superior minds they believe themselves to be, prompting them to come into thread after thread presenting the same flawed arguments ad nauseum, while reminding everyone of that one time the law of averages made it possible for them to be correct about something.

Like I said, it's unfortunate.

Ryan isn't elite right now, but he doesn't have to be. Our team is made up of mainly non elite guys. Dallas is a team with a lot of elite guys, and a lot of holes. The philosophy on this team is to make sure everyone is GOOD, and then maybe a few will become elite. It's a very workman group.

Ryan's not a top 10 statistical passer, and it's hard to say he's elite if nearly half the league is better in YPA/TD/INT/completion percentage.

However, he's very solid, has improved, and has clearly shown he's good enough to win with, and sometimes good enough to win because of.

From an X's and O's standpoint, he'll be elite when he starts hitting more on the intermediate to deep throws, and starts hitting his receivers in stride to open up more YAC. The deep throws will open up the entire offense and one thing you see consistently from the QBs we tend to think of as the best, is a high YPA, because they get the ball down the field.

So, is Ryan elite now? I don't think so, but I don't think it matters. I don't think what happens in one game (the next playoff) will determine it either, because it's just one game. If he happens to have a bad one, it doesn't change who he is as a QB. What will make him elite is continuing to develop, and add to his game, which we should all be excited for. There shouldn't be argument as much as "hey, he still hasn't gotten comfortable with A, B, and C, and he's already very good...it should be fun to watch him grow."

The first goal is to get a QB you can win with. We have that. The rest is sort of gravy. (except when I get irritated with lack of deep throws, of course, then it's all horrible).

actual numbers are just numbers you have to rank them and position them
is there any team that has more rushing yards or rushing tds then passing ?

Right now we are ranked 1st in plays per game at 69.6

Rushing attempts 31.6 per game
Passing attempts 36.4 per game

Now take a look at Indy who are a PASS FIRST TEAM

rushing attempts 23.5 per game
passing attempts 43.5 per game

of course the balance is there but we are more predicated on the run first philosophy...

This is an odd argument for a the fan base of the team with the best record in football to have.

Our QB is great....but not great enough compared to other QBs.

I wonder what you all would complain about if this team was 2-12.

Just a little bit of success and you can't handle it. Don't worry it will come with time.

lol,...just a little success and we can't handle it. So true,...and handling success will be forced upon Falcons fans for many years to come as long as there's no interruption in play next season.
