Exactly what I'm thinking. I think Heyward and Watt are really 3-4 DE's, and we don't need another Jamaal Anderson hybrid guy. Not sure if Bailey has an actual spot, and he certainly isn't worth a 1st round pick. I don't think we should be picking best defensive end available when no one fits the scheme or is worth that 1st.

I think the LTs will be gone: (Solder, Castonzo, Sherrod, Tyron Smith) The WRs will be gone: (AJ Green, Julio Jones) The DEs will be gone: (Bowers, Quinn, Kerrigan) The CBs will be gone: (Peterson, Akamura, Brandon Harris) Those are our positions of need. The players I like after those relatively high are: CB-Jimmy Smith (could be a decent value at #27) CB-Aaron Williams (not #27 worthy) WR-Titus Young (not #27 worthy) WR-Leonard Hankerson (not #27 worthy) of the 4 listed above, the only one I might feel good about taking at #27 is Jimmy Smith - the others I would rather take 10-15 spots later. |

He needs some work, but could be a legit #2. I could see Jimmy Smith jumping up draft boards after an impressive combine. Bruce Carter from UNC may be worth it, but I would hope we keep Nicholas. Man, end of the 1st round sucks.

He really is a good looking all-around TE. There's a reason he's the top ranked TE too. Is he a sexy pick & does he qualify as a "weapon"? Not really, but he IS better than Palmer & Peelle. And he has great hands & the ability to actually get YAC, which is something TG can't really do anymore. As a result, I think he can actually make an impact for us immediately. That said, I also believe Hankerson will move up the draft board after the combine & Torrey Smith will move down below him (although he might still be picked up in rnd 1 by someone). And after watching Titus Young's videos, I'm not nearly as impressed as I am with Hankerson either. Smith & Young drop too many balls, it's that simple. Again, Hankerson broke Andre Johnson's & Michael Irvin's yards & TD records on top of having 12 out of 13 games with a 50+ yard catch, which is crazy. He's way better than he's being projected simply because he was last clocked at 4.52. But he's a playmaker & is a lot quicker than he seems, just wait & see. I would have no problem with us taking him at 27. |

Beef, I know you like Hankerson - understatement of the year - but don't get all caught up in the "breaking Andre Johnson/MichaelIrvin's records" thing - that is a meaningless stat. College teams throw the ball so much more now than back then - and college stats don't mean anything in the NFL - ask Rashaam Salaam, Doug Flutie and others.......having said that, Hankerson is on the radar.

I like Kyle Rudolph's gametape that I have seen - limited to Youtube Vids - but I think most of the clips were from Freshman season and he has an injury history.........guy has very good talent though - if/when healthy, he could be a very good player.

I had been watching Smith, Young, Jernigan, Baldwin, & Brown mostly. But just this past week, I started watching a ton more WR vids & simply found that Hankerson, Cobb, Kerley, Jernigan, & Toliver looked better than those other guys. And when I watch Julio Jones vids, I notice that Hankerson looks nearly the same. Same downhill running style. Same willingness to catch the ball at the highest point with his hands then come down & actually take a hit & try to turn up field. And some of his one-handed grabs are amazing. He's being tremendously overlooked. And whether you give any credit for breaking Johnson's & Irvin's records or not, 15 TD's, nearly 1,200 yards on 72 receptions, & 14 catches over 50+ yards is impressive as hell, even in college. Especially considering Miami isn't that great & we don't hear much about their QB being some superstar. |
