It seems to me that Smitty, Mularkey and crew have a "vision" of what football should be. Smashmouth, in the trenches, grind it out leatherhead football. The problem is, in the age of the spread offense, 4 WR sets, and 5K yard passers, the league is getting away from that.

I feel like our game preparation on both sides is all about what the staff want football to be about, instead of what football is today. We can't handle when any team does something out of the box. We stick to the gameplan no matter what. We keep running it up the middle even when we are down 3 scores. We stay in Zone coverage, even when they are taking us apart in the passing game.

Winning just isn't good enough. You have to go for the kill. Score, score and score some more. We can't have the same gameplan 3 weeks in a row, squeak by again and again, and expect to keep getting lucky.

The Eagles played the game of their lives last week. They pulled out all the trickery they could and zone-blitzed the crap out of our offense. Once they got up 14-0 they settled into their more traditional schemes. Then it became 21-0, and that was just too much. We dont have Peyton Manning, or run that kind of quick-scoring offense to come back from that kind of deficit.

The Eagles offense was dictating to our defense, and exploiting all the holes in it. There seemed to be a wide open Eagle WR every pass play. Something schematically was all wrong with our defense.
