Did We Sign RB Gartrell Johnson?

RE: RB Shawnbrey McNeal Signed
If he was on the Chargers, then I approve the signing to the practice squad. He hasn't proven much, but the Chargers seem to have the best eye in the league for talent at the running back position. I don't mind giving him a shot on the practice squad at all.

Dang, I overlooked Bear Woods got cut. I guess I just didn't want to believe it.

Bear Woods, LB ATL

News: Falcons LB Bear Woods has been released from the practice squad.

Analysis: Woods might end up on another practice squad somewhere

What happen to Antone? I know he was inactive last week, but how long will he be out for?

RE: Did We Sign RB Gartrell Johnson?
Here's the latest on Antone Smith,

Quote:Falcons signed RB Gartrell Johnson, formerly of the Giants.
With Jerious Norwood (ACL tear) out for the season, Johnson will battle Antone Smith for the No. 3 job behind Michael Turner and Jason Snelling. He's no lock to be active on game days, much less a fantasy factor. The Falcons also added to the practice squad Shawnbrey McNeal, a player closer to Norwood's skill-set.

RE: RB Shawnbrey McNeal Signed
This kid is 5'10", 195lbs, runs a 4.56 40, 36" vert, 14 reps of 225. For SMU he ran the ball 236 times for 1188 yards & 12 TD's, also had 31 receptions for 283 yards & 2 TD's.

Nothing at all spectacular. Extreme longshot IMO.

RE: Did We Sign RB Gartrell Johnson?
He's only as quick as Michael Turner (Which is fast for a power back), but he has (or at least had, back in college) amazing break away speed when first getting going.

RE: Did We Sign RB Gartrell Johnson?
We need a scat back to round this thing out. Turner is a bruising between the tackles bulldozer. Snelling has a ton more finess, can run the screen or halfback routes & catch. I don't think Snelling is a between the tackles back. And we need that 4.3 open field runner that can beat the LB's around the ends & turn the afterburners on.

I don't like either of these guys. Smith deserves his shot IMO. And he knows the playbook.

Edit: I should rephrase that... I think Snelling would do fine as a between the tackles back, but I don't think that would be proper use of him. A RB his size that can catch the ball & run through DB tackles in the second layer is dangerous & a lot more bang for the buck. I wouldn't chance sending him up the gut 25 times a game though. You're missing out on what he can do best.
