Derek Anderson benched

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Rookie Max Hall will start at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals against the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints on Sunday. NFC West Blog ESPN.com's Mike Sando writes about all things NFC West in his division blog. • Network: NFL Nation Coach Ken Whisenhunt decided to go with the undrafted former BYU standout after Derek Anderson struggled through his four starts. Anderson got the job over Matt Leinart during the preseason. Leinart was released before the regular season began and has signed with Houston. Anderson, signed by Arizona as a free agent after he was released by Cleveland, was benched in favor of Hall after throwing two first-half interceptions in last Sunday's 41-10 loss at San Diego. Hall completed 8 of 14 passes for 82 yards without an interception but was sacked six times. The Cardinals are tied for the NFC West lead at 2-2 but have been outscored 82-17 in their two losses. After Anderson's second interception of the game on Sunday was returned for a touchdown, Hall played the rest of the way. In the game, Anderson completed 7 of 14 for 64 yards and was intercepted twice. Hall, a BYU standout who grew up in nearby Mesa, was 8 of 14 for 82 yards. He was not intercepted but was sacked six times to Anderson's three. In his four starts, Anderson has completed 52 percent (58 of 112) of his passes for three touchdowns with five interceptions. Of his two interceptions on Sunday, one ended a scoring threat and the other was returned for a touchdown. In my opinion, he had no business starting in the first place. Cardinals will be looking for a QB in the offseason I'm sure. |

RE: Derek Anderson benched
Arizona is the worst 2-2 team in the history of the NFL.

I'm not trying to say I know more than the front office of that team, but there had to be another option than Anderson. Looking at his body of work, especially last year, he was one of the worst QB's I've ever seen. Mark Bulger perhaps, I don't know. I've just personally never thought he was a good QB, pros or college. |

RE: Derek Anderson benched
Not that he was great or anything, but I don't get how he went from having that good of a season to being complete ass. I can't really think of anybody off the top of my head who had such a good season his first year starting and was godawful every year after.
