RE: Curtis Lofton
I look at it like this. We're probably trying to build a "team" defense more than a defense with studs. Lofton fits our system, just like everybody else...nobody is probably going to be the show-stopper of the group, but they'll all come together as a unit and end up in the top 5 or so in overall defense soon. I think we're one more year out...I just don't know if we should make this year defensive, because I'm sure a few people on the offensive side of the ball have something to say about that

What you're saying is we can guarantee ourselves an Aaron Hernandez like TE if we just pick one later. Which is nonsense.

It's irrelevant since nobody is psychic & knew a 4th round pick would turn out so well. If teams knew Hernandez was going to be so good, logic says he would have been picked higher. Kyle Rudolph is at the top of the list because he's the best TE prospect for a reason. If we're looking for an imediate impact tier 1 TE to replace Gonzo, we can't possibly bank on getting an Aaron Hernandez in later rounds. That's dumb. And the fact one of this caliber will very likely make it past round 20 because every team in front of us has significantly greater needs than TE, it might be foolish of us to pass up this opportunity, which doesn't come around that often, getting a #1 position prospect at 27.

And by the way, the top 3 OLB's will likely be gone before 27 because of the needs of other teams.
