I really respected his decision to punt on fourth and one inside Brown's territory. Usually he is pretty aggressive in those situations, especially with only a three point lead.

But he reacted to the totality of circumstances, not just the score. Wallace was out and Dellhome was banged up. Smith said "Fine, if you are going to score, earn it. We aren't going to take the chance of giving you an short field.

I bet if it was the Saints or another quality offense, he would have gone for it.

It's that kind of thinking that keeps you from losing games in the fourth quarter.

He is finally able to trust in his defense to stop the other team and get the ball back. You don't have to go for it with a lead if you have trust that you defense will not give up points. This year, our defense has stepped up and is playing really well. I can't wait to see how the season turns out.
