College: Quick NCAA quesion (yea I know TATF)

Let me preface this by saying I would have put this in the college football forum, if it weren't for the fact the last post there was 3/24/2011. (once an answer is given please feel free to move it to the dead zone)

With sanctions handed down to USC and more coming to (the)Ohio State, my question is regarding the loss of scholarships.

Is it a loss of scholarships across the board for the athletics program, or is it exclusively to the football program?

If it is just to the football program, what to stop say Ohio State in these days of duel sports athletes from giving a kid a Baseball scholarship and then have him "walk on" to the Football team?

It's just the football program I believe and as for the dual sport stuff I'm not exactly sure.

Interesting, So theoretically, a school could choose to just forsake one of their other sports to keep from being effected by losing football scholarships. " our baseball team is god awful because our 5 through 8 hitters are defensive linemen"

Surely someone other than me has thought of this loophole.

Interesting indeed, but there is no top school in the nation that can afford to forsake any mens athletic program for the sake of another, especially when none of the other sports receive nearly as much funding as football does.

I'm sure the NCAA is looking for stuff that is that out of whack, so I doubt they could get by with that.
