Charles Johnson said ATL Didn't Want to Pay Him Stupid Money
Just so everyone knows, we were in contact, but must have said, "$76 million? Are you fucking high?"

Per CJ's twitter:

Quote:Atlanta back out they was scare of paying to much. They gonna see me twice a year! Bet that.

Ridiculous money for a guy with one season over 6 sacks.

I agree 1+ million bucks per sack is a bit steep for a guy with one decent season under his belt.

RE: Charles Johnson said ATL Didn't Want to Pay Him Stupid Money
It's not that we didn't want to pay CJ stupid money. It's that we couldn't afford to. How could we conceivably pay one player $12 million per season when we are only $18 million under the cap and have several of our own FAs to re-sign? Simply not possible.

That said, let's stop acting like CJ's arrow is pointing in any direction other than straight up. He would have been a true difference maker on our D for years to come. Now, all we're left with is the sobering reality that our only proven pass rusher is 33-years old and somewhat injury prone along with the fact that we won't have a 1st round draft pick until 2013.

I'm already holding my breath.

Yep. Even if Kroy breaks out(which I'm not ruling out), DE is going to be a huge need next to LT for a while.

I think Kroy is going to have a pretty nice season..Im just holding my fucking breathe ABE doesnt break down then we will be shit at of luck...Chauncey Davis while a run stopper actually brings no pass rush

TD is trusting his draft picks..Jerry/Bierman /Peters he is doing the right thing and not over paying ..

I would see what Giants could want for Osi ...tho

I haven't seen a single person who thought we should have paid CJ more than the Panthers did. It was too much money, and all the fans and our front office saw that.

What about Mathias (excuse the spelling) From the Giants? Isn't he a free agent as well? If so...I think it would be a good idea for the Falcons take that into consideration. Your thoughts.

He still has loads of potential, but I don't want to cross my fingers and hold my breath another season hoping he comes around and puts up a bunch of sacks. We have an aging Abe, and then a bunch of guys with potential but haven't proven they can get at the QB.
