theres a chance he could slip in the draft after injuring his shoulder on sunday during the bench press, is out of the combine and might not be ready for his pro day on march 10

Fully agree, I wanted Matthews so bad with pick 19 in 2009. I watched his Pro Day live. I got to be honest I did not see the sack monster coming, what I saw was a cover LB. The guy was a walk on former safety. And in drills he could cover he was just flying around. I watched him in a pick drill and he met the ball so high having located it in the air over his shoulder turned and met it at a high point in one swift moment regained his feet having almost fallen over and pegged it back down the sidelines. Not sure if he has that agility with his NFL frame but I believe he can still cover. The guy I saw at pro day could have covered receivers if he was lined up like a safety. I'm sure he could shut down TEs

Sure as shit looks like we should have taken him over Peria at this point....and I'm a huge Peria/Ole Miss fan.

At the time, we needed linebackers. If Nicholas doesn't resign, then we do need him. But if we keep Nicholas, I would much rather use our first round pick for a position of need. And not just a guy that's going to be a beast. Fill the holes before you lay the turf.

But the bad thing about that is that the CBA problem seems more than likely to go past the time of the NFL Draft. We won't know if Nicholas will stay or not till their is a new CBA in place. It will just come down to whether TD and Smitty really thinks that he will be a better fit than Nicholas.

Well, all I can honestly say is this, I would rather go for one of our bigger needs than linebacker right now. Casey Matthews is a great player, but not nearly the prospect his brother was. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE Casey Matthews to get drafted by our Falcons. I'm a huge fan of his. I've said it since the championship game, the kid is going to be something special, that's for sure.

But the question is, are you willing to draft him (Knowing that we already have Lofton, Spoon, MAYBE Nicholas and Peterson), as opposed to drafting a guy that could give us a pass rush, or even a deep threat on offense?


As I said, I'm a huge Casey Matthews fan so don't take it like I dislike the guy!
