RE: Carson Palmer, "I will never set foot in Paul Brown Stadium again,"
Here's my thing. Why would the Bengals KEEP a guy that has already destroyed any team chemistry they once had? Why let him retire, when they can definitely get quite a bit for him. So many franchises need a quarterback right now. I can think of 3 - 5 right off hand, and they all have decent things to offer to the Bengals,
San Francisco (Alex Smith? Really?) Arizona (Need I even say?) Seattle (They have Hasselbeck, but no doubt are they searching for new guy) Carolina (I think the FO is starting to see Clausen may NOT be the answer) Minnesota (Come on! The Vikings would offer a guys life for a quarterback like Palmer. Has he not been as good since he hurt his arm? No, he hasn't. But does he still have the ability to be a pretty solid QB in the NFL, of course he does! The Vikings need a quarterback.) They could get quite a bit for him, as opposed to getting absolutely nothing and still losing out on money. There have been many that have tried to bluff by saying they would retire. (Chad Johnson being one of them) But I'll tell you right now, this is far from a bluff. Carson Palmer doesn't want to play for the Bengals. No one is making him out as the bad guy because he's not the bad guy. The front office needs to at least shop him around. They won't even do that to see what they COULD get. I bet if they did that, and didn't find something worth it, it would help change Palmers mind knowing that the Bengals DO care about their players. This just tells me the Bengals don't really give a crap about the players and how they feel about the team.

It's hard to really call Carson out, because there are just so many wrong things with the Bengals. If your team is bad with a great owner, you just have to be patient for them to get everything together. However, if ownership is terrible, there's almost no hope. -Owner that shouldn't be making personnel decisions. Refuses to get a GM. -Head Coach that tried to quit himself, very hard for him to sell Carson that things would be better. -#1 Target has clearly lost a step, and arguing with the HC in public. -Outdated facilities. -Brought in an OC with very little experience calling plays at the NFL level. -The cloud of failure and ineptitude that results from all of this. It's not very easy to have hope in these situations. -All of the other bad stuff Carson has experienced that we don't even know about, but resulting in him wanting to leave now. |

He needs to go to a team that can contend now - on the list above, the only two that make sense is Minnesota and Seattle. I think Minny would be the best place. |

The Bucs would still own his rights if he came back. From what I heard the other day as long as he sits a year and then comes back the Bengals wouldn' thave rights to him any longer. I'll try to find a link to the conversation. |

(The fact that the Vikings are the only team that can be contenders now.) Actually, I feel like the least likely to be contenders is Seattle. San Francisco has a pretty solid defense. And has shown they can play toe to toe with some of the best teams. But they are held back at the QB position. Receivers are stepping up and getting better each season. Frank Gore is simply a monster. And the defense? Other than a few holes maybe in the secondary, they are great. Arizona? Come on man, give them credit. That offense is stout, with a good quarterback that is. Wells and Hightower at running back. Larry Fitz as your #1, not to mention the 2, and 3 options at WR aren't too shabby either. The defense isn't too bad off. They've got a load of playmakers, defensive line is huge. They can go into the playoffs easily with a quarterback. Vikings, we all know the Vikings are playoff ready still. Seattle, they got some luck and stepped up last season, but I don't think they are in position to do that again this coming season. Not in my opinion anyway. The only way they win games is if Lynch goes big on the ground. The Panthers, honestly, I can say this one the most. They are a playoff ready team. I don't care what their record shows. They aren't that bad on defense (Although they looked it last season.) They have a huge running back combination when they are healthy (Which they should be this coming season). Offensive line isn't too bad, good in both the pass blocking and run blocking departments. They are HONESTLY a quarterback away from having a solid season in what people consider one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. (Especially now.)
