If signing him means we can skip RB this year in our top 3 picks and get a known commodity of production, I'm all for it. 29 is still young for a RB. Those are still near prime years in fact. It's when they hit 33 you worry. SJ is a baller and a perfect fit for this offense. Absolutely perfect because he can finesse run, 2-3 cut, power it in the hole, power for short yardage, and catch extremely well and burst in open space. Big back and hard to tackle. I'll take that for the next couple years and worry about drafting a RB next year.

I know in previous threads I said it was retarded to consider a TE with our first 3 picks because DE, RB, and DT were much greater priorities, but Tyler Eifert blew it up at the combine. That dude is the real deal. He did everything you could imagine at that position flawlessly at the combine. Can block, run, catch, and play 3 downs. So now I'm thinking there's a chance we take him if he's there at 30. If not, then I think we go DE. And if we sign Jackson, we can load up on defense with our first 3 picks.

This post made me happy.

SJ has missed chunks of seasons with injury, but he's been their leading receiver at least once while in St. Louis. I think Matt could have a completion percentage in the high 60's, if not flirt with 70% for the season with a back with Jackson's pass catching abilities.

not if we resign TG, aint gonna happen.

I agree we could get him at or less than 7M, but how much less? I don't think he would take less than 5M. We still have a hand full of our own guys to resign, I don't see how we make a move like this unless TG doesn't come back.

he did that this year, no need to overpay a vet RB for the same thing.

If Eifert is still there at 30...seems unlikely though, than take him.
The word is that Lacy will not go in the first round, I saw that on NFL.com. It makes no sense to me how the draft will work out.

There are no top QBs. The top RB might not go until round 2. The top TE might last to 30. Does that mean that there will be a run on defensive players in the first round? If that's the case than what will be left at 30?

If we get Eifert than no need to resign TG. If we get Lacy no need to sign Jackson or Greene or whomever.

unfortunately, we will have to resign TG and/or sign Jackson/Greene before we hit the draft.

This draft seems to get a lot of hype but I don't see a lot of real playmakers. I might be wrong...

there isn't a ton of top tier talent, but it is a bit deeper than most other drafts. While you may only have a few players worthy of a top 10-15 selection you also have a bunch of guys getting second round grades that would usually go in the 1st round. the offensive skill positions seem to be especially lacking though, which is why I would prefer to go Defense as much as possible.

NFL.com said theere were a lot of speedy LBs which is what we need. I guess it comes down to what kind of hybrid D Nolan is looking to run next year. I doubt we see any major overhauls. We were too close for that.

I agree. I really dislike the rb's and wr's (not needed anyway) in this draft. All the picks seem to be high risk high reward. There's not any prospect that is a "sure thing" that I have seen.
