Big Props to JA98 for Big Hustle on a "Hidden Play". . .Not a game changer (probably)
With 2 and a half minutes left in the first half, Falcons already ahead 24-7, Jamal Anderson was rushing hard when Derek Anderson through a nice little swing pass to Stephens-Howling for a first down. SH was stood up and was probably on his way down, but JA 98 had reversed his momentum from an aggressive rush and never gave up on the play. He followed Stephens-Howling more than 15 yards from where he was when the pass was thrown and delivered a hit that made the crowd go "oooohhh!" It was clean. It was nasty. But it was more:
Less than two minutes later, the Cardinals were still driving. Maybe they get a late touchdown and have some momentum at halftime. 10 points is a ballgame, right? It's third and three from the 36 and Derek Anderson throws that little flair right to the hands of the running back who is wide open for a first down inside the 30. Except it's Stephens-Howlings first play since getting blasted by Jamal and it goes right through his hands. At first I thought he took his eye off the ball to have a peak at what was going to drill him this time. But maybe he just didn't get his head around to pick up the ball quick enough. Maybe he didn't do his job because he was still discombobulated from getting quaked by Jamal Anderson 15 yards down field where you don't usually see defensive ends delivering those kinds of hits. We certainly didn't see any Cardinal linemen running after plays. No doubt, JA98 has been a prolific bust. But it says something about him, and probably more about the coaching staff, that he was hustling in that situation to help finish a play, and maybe plant a little seed that effected the next play for S-H. I thought it was a good sign. HolyDuckett: The immaculately conceived gay-love-child of HolyMoses and duckettplease. (I'm straight, I'm just the result of their gay love, got it?) |

Um... possible.
I noticed JA98 a few times, but it's not so much what one player does: the defensive line and the front 7 looked great. |

They dropped JA98 back in the line at LDE after the big run of 80 yards, and on early downs I didn't notice Kroy there again. This not to say Kroy wasn't ever again in on early downs at LDE, but that I didn't notice him on running downs. As big a bust as JA98 has been rushing the QB, he does manage to hold his ground and stop rushers, which in the last two games, has been a weakness with Kroy in there(at least in two seperate instances).
I like the rotation we have at D-line, and hope to see continued improvement from all our players. Ignorance can be educated.....Stupidity is to the bone. |

Hayden went at 7th overall, and no one knows. Revis was 16th. It's a premium position, and he still went 16th. Willis... well, McKay fucked up. Okoye was still there too. Remember, he was the youngest drafted DT ever. That guy is still 12 years old, and has been pretty good. (At least we didn't take Brady Quinn or Ted Ginn or something terrible like that). |
