I think where you are getting confused is that its an excuse. Not everybody uses it as an excuse.

Another question...Why didn't we play well against the Panthers?

I agree. If I were to get more detailed, then I would say that we didn't prepare well.

Why we didn't prepare well is the big question. I don't know, but my gut tells me we overlooked the game, hence a trap game. Not because the Panthers trapped us, but maybe we fell into the trap of comparing records, or the trap of we always beat the Panthers, or the trap of we can pull it out if we need to, or the trap of looking forward to next weeks game, or the trap of looking back at a win against our rivals, or none of the above.

In the end, its just an opinion, not an excuse.

Yep both us and the saints had poor performances after our game then came out and dominated this week so maybe there is something to it.

I don't need to be at the top echelon to know how people at that level are different from those that aren't. I have experience in competition at various levels and stages of life, and also personally know some competitors at that level. My opinion is based on what I know. Like I said previously, it is fine if you put stock in the "trap game". I don't.

My take on the Panthers game is exactly what Jur said; the NFL is the elite level of the sport. Even the best teams lose.

actually it was the DC, andy's BFF.....no matter what the excuses are, we heard all the talk, and we put together a pretty dang good game plan and executed it. That was a big game then, and just because we know now they've suffered major suckage since then, it was a big game. I like to think we started it by crushing them and making it look so easy

Just my thoughts - I don't buy into the "trap game" as being some magic thing that happens like you hear people talk about a lot on TV (it gets sensationalized like anything else), but the phenomenon of being up for some games more than others certainly happens. It's just part of people's make up. Try as you might, you can't get a group of people worked up to the same level of focus and energy all the time. When it all comes together like it was meant to, we see what happened yesterday. The previous week, not so much and I imagine it was just the opposite for the panthers.

I don't think it's as much of a conscious thing though, they aren't sitting around going "we got this in the bag, no need to work hard this week". It's easy to fool yourself though.
