There are some killer breweries within an hour of Chapel Hill, NC. Here's a list with some of my faves from each.

BIG BOSS in Raleigh: Hell's Belle Belgian Ale (7.0%), Bad Penny Brown Ale (5.2%)

CAROLINA BREWERY in Chapel Hill: Copperline Amber (4.0%), Octoberfest (??), they have a popular IPA, too if that's your thing

CAROLINA BREWING CO. in Holly Springs: Carolina Pale Ale (5.6)

FULLSTEAM in Durham: Southern Style Lager (5.5%)

LONERIDER in Raleigh: Shotgun Betty Hefeweizen (5.8%), Sweet Josie Brown (6.1%)

TRIANGLE BREWERY in Durham: Belgian Golden (8.0%), White Ale (5.0%)

RED OAK and NATTY GREENE have already been mentioned

legendbrewing.com based here in Richmond Va does some really good beer. they even have their own pub....
