Atlanta spirit no match for the Who Dat Nation
Here is an article in which Mike Conti, now with WGST-AM, is interviewed.
Atlanta spirit no match for the Who Dat Nation Don Ames Reporting One thing the Falcons will not have going for them tonight in the Georgia Dome...is the kind of support the Saints get when they play at home. Former WWL news anchor and reporter Mike Conti, now with WGST-AM in Atlanta, says there's no comparing the spirit of the two cities. "This city does not go all in, emotionally, with the Falcons the same way that New Orleans goes all in with the Saints," Conti says. He describes the support and enthusiasm in Atlanta as tepid compared to Saints fans. "The energy that people put into following the Falcons here pales in comparison to the energy that Saints fans put into following the Black & Gold," he says. Listen to Don Ames' conversation with Mike Conti: "Here in Atlanta, the Falcons compete for attention with so many other teams, including the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. It really is a college sports town over a pro sports town," Conti says. See link for more. As an Atlanta Braves fan since the Hank Aaron days I have attended many Braves games. I must say I have noticed the same. What is your take on this? Saints Fan Since 1967

RE: Atlanta spirit no match for the Who Dat Nation
the issue w/ Atlanta is that its an attractive destination for people to re-locate to - and therefore is a transplant city - i don't know there has been what 5,000 articles written on this. Also a big college town with some of the biggest alumni bases in the country from georgia, florida, florida state, auburn, clemson, etc., etc.
In New Orleans, its a crime-ridden, sweltering below sea-level place to live. The family trees don't fork out there and - if you are a local, there is nothing to do other than be a Saints fan. Sure its a vacation city for alcholics and college kids but that is about it. No real big business opportunities or big companies and not an attractive place to live. So the folks that do live there have been there forever and are Saints fans - they do have good fans - give them their props there. However, in no way whatsoever is New Orleans superior to Atlanta. Now the franchises are very close in ability and talent for now. However the Saints are not as balanced as Falcons - its 99% Drew Brees - he's a great player but if he has a bad game his team cannot win. I'll take Atlanta and I will take the Falcons....thank you very much. |

I was just posting a comparative story on the fans. You are correct in that the Saints are a way of life to the people of the gulf. You would only expect them to be more fervent in their support. Oh, and if you believe that the Saints are 99% Brees, you have a surprise coming. Saints Fan Since 1967

Jonathan Vilma, Will Smith, Marques Colston, Jabari Greer - that's about it outside of Drew Brees. Not a lot of offensive talent other than Brees/Colston. Brees makes the other WRs look better than they really are. |

Huh? point taken but #2-#54 the falcons are better than Saints....Falcons would be a 9-7 team without Matt Ryan most likely. Falcons are much more balanced team overall than Saints.. Drew Brees has to throw it 40+ times for Saints to win most games. Falcons can win with Matt Ryan throwing under 30 times most days. Just sayin' |

That is the idea for our offense, but with the injuries to Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush those numbers are down. But, we are at full strength now. The Saints do better when Brees is under 40 passes. Much better. (12-27-2010 05:04 PM)g-dawg Wrote: point taken but #2-#54 the falcons are better than Saints....Falcons would be a 9-7 team without Matt Ryan most likely. Falcons are much more balanced team overall than Saints.. Oh, and I also differ with you on strength of roster. We now go four deep at RB, four deep at WR, two deep at TE. I'll put up any of our #2-#4 WR's up against anything you have after Roddy White. Our secondary is all in place and solid throughout given the fact that many had to cover during the injury stretch over the first half of the season. If we have a depth problem it is at DT. Our outside LB's are also average, although Danny Clark has been looking very good recently. Saints Fan Since 1967
