As the team prepares to head to the NFL Scouting Combine later this month and the NFL Draft in April, two moves were made Wednesday. Veteran safety Erik Coleman was released by the team and veteran linebacker Coy Wire signed a new two-year deal. Wire was scheduled to become a free agent during the offseason The Atlanta Falcons today announced that linebacker Coy Wire has signed a new two-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Additionally, the Falcons have announced that safety Erik Coleman has been released. Wire, 6-foot, 225 pounds, was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third round (97th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. Wire was signed by the Falcons as a free agent prior to the 2008 season. In 2010, he appeared in 15 games serving as a captain on special teams and as a reserve linebacker. Wire contributed with eight special teams tackles and four tackles at linebacker. Coleman, 5-foot-10, 201 pounds, was signed as a free agent by the Falcons in 2008. He was originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2004 NFL Draft (143rd overall) by the New York Jets. theProf |

Coleman was "released" from his existing contract, thus he was never a Free Agent. A player has to be a qualified free agent, whose contract had expired and then resigned by another team. Even if Coleman were to subsequently sign with another NFL team, he still would not enter into the comp pick formula because he was "released" by Atlanta. theProf |

In my eyes, it would be Snelling we need to keep with no doubts. Snelling is a consistent guy who doesn't have any nagging injuries and can run the same plays that Turner runs up the gut. But yet, he still shows receiving abilities out of the backfield every week. Norwood however, seems to see more visits to the locker room than he does to the football field. He's great when he's healthy, but what good does this great playing ability do if he's constantly on the bench? Not only that, but this also goes against your entire "Why sign injury prone players" idea.

Well i don't mind him resigning them both to non guaranteed contracts, but I hope he brings in some more talent at that position. I mean, counting on Jerious at this point....you'd just have to be an idiot to do that. |
