Atlanta Sports Franchises Playoff History Since 1995
It's been a week since the Falcons lost to the Packers, and the only thing I have been able to think about is that it always seems that Atlanta teams run into teams in the Playoffs that are either winning or at least playing for the championship. After thinking on this for a little bit, I finally decided to look up Atlanta's 4 major sports teams since the the Braves won the World Series in 1995.

Atlanta Falcons (2010-11 Season Not Included)
  • 0 Championships
  • 5 Playoff Appearances in 15 Seasons
  • 4 Playoff Wins
  • 1 Super Bowl Appearance
  • 1 Times Lost to Eventual Super Bowl Champions
  • 2 Times Lost to Eventual Super Bowl Runner Up

Atlanta Braves
  • 0 Championships
  • 11 Playoff Appearances in 15 Seasons
  • 7 Playoff Series Wins
  • 2 World Series Appearances
  • 5 Times Lost to Eventual World Series Champions
  • 2 Times Lost to Eventual World Series Runner Up

Atlanta Hawks
  • 0 Championships
  • 7 Playoff Appearances in 16 Seasons
  • 5 Playoff Series Wins
  • 0 NBA Final Appearances
  • 2 Times Lost to Eventual NBA Champions
  • 1 Times Lost to Eventual NBA Finals Runner Up

Atlanta Thrashers
  • 0 Championships
  • 1 Playoff Appearances in 10 Seasons
  • 0 Playoff Series Wins
  • 0 Stanley Cup Final Appearances
  • 0 Times Lost to Eventual Stanley Cup Champions
  • 0 Times Lost to Eventual Stanley Cup Runner Up

Atlanta Sports Team Totals
  • 0 Championships
  • 24 Playoff Appearances in 56 Seasons
  • 16 Playoff Series Wins
  • 3 Championship Appearances
  • 8 Times Losing to Eventual Champion
  • 5 Times Lost to Eventual Runner Up

That means in the 24 playoff appeareances for Atlanta sports franchises, 13 times they've lost to either the eventual champion or runner up. Maybe there was something to my thinking about always playing either the eventual champions or runner ups.

Dang... We suck! Well At least I'm a Magic fan and not a Hawks fan. Wait, that's not much of an upgrade.

Atlanta teams are 16-25 (including this season's Falcons) in the post season in the past 15 years. That's pretty damn depressing.

This season there is. I could see the Magic challenging the Heat and Boston for representation rights for the East. Hell didn't the Magic represent the East last year in the Finals? Hawks can't make it past the second round.

2 years ago they did. The Hawks have never won more than one series any one postseason.

And they never will until the team is sold. I'm sorry, but they have a very low lid due to incompetent, broke ownership. I guarantee you when these guys do sell the team because they are out of cash the new owners are going to say, "Ok, number one priority is get this Joe Johnson deal off the books IMMEDIATELY!"

It is depressing to be an Atlanta sports fan. I always root for all teams and players from the state of Georgia and is just mind numbing to be thirty four years old and only have one world title in all four major pro teams in my life.
