Dimitroff’s un-Belichickian move: No one is questioning Julio Jones’ ability as a wide receiver. There’s a legitimate argument to be made that the Alabama product will end up being the best receiver in a class that includes the hugely hyped A.J. Green. But the ransom – two first-round picks, two seconds, and two fourths -- to get him was quite stunning. This is even more shocking considering that Atlanta GM Thomas Dimitroff served under Bill Belichick, who is known to trade down for multiple picks, for six seasons as the Patriots director of college scouting. It’s always interesting to see how these guys operate once they branch out on their own. Jones will also now have to elevate himself to superstar-status to not be considered a disappointment.

“You never know what another team is thinking of a player,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. “There were obviously some teams that felt strongly about a player – Atlanta – and traded up to get players that they felt that strongly about.

1. We didn't give up 2 first rounds. We swapped this year's first round and GAVE next year's first round

2. next year's 32nd pick is not that bad of a trade

It's funny how we went against the grain in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was like WTF?!?! We completely went against everyone's expectations, recommendations, etc,. Well, how did that turn out for us. . . . .

I am getting a feeling of deja vu. . . .

I really feel this pick will turn out to be more than many expect just as Ryan turned out to be more than we expected.

I agree that this was out of the norm for a Patriots type guy.... Real Ballsy move...


I get why TD did this and i like Julio A LOT... But we also gave up Alot...The only thing that bothers me is the 1st round next year... I know that technically count as a 2nd round pick tho.... TD need to atleast find to more really good players in this draft.

But i keep hearing analyst say that this is a weak 2nd round and i felt like we would not have found a difference maker at 27 (not the caliber of Julio Jones) ... So half of me love this trade because we got a difference maker... The other half of me is thinking about all the picks we had to give up tho...

Just think if we TD was this bold to make this kind of move and offer up this much for a unproven player what else could have we gotten is the bigger question from Fitz to whoever.
This moved screamed panic move..I believe TD tried for AJ Green and failed
and that lead to this package that was probably sweetened even more when AJ off the table

Im sorry you dont move up like that and you meet with player once and your sold..Your selling future draft picks for this player..SHIT we meet with Jerrigan 3 fucking times and he was rated a 2nd round player

We didn't give up 2 1st round picks and 2 seconds. We gave up 1 1st round pick, swapped the other, and only one second round pick.
